good way(s) to visualize and relax pelvic floor

Post by lookouth »

I have been struggling, and experimenting for a while with different ways to feel and then relax my pelvic floor muscles. For a while I was content with just dropping the muscles in my perinuem, after a while I realized this was only adressing a small set of the muscles involved. I found one of the best ways to visualize and then relax my pelvic floor is to imagine a flat board that sits perpindicular to the direction of your legs as you sit. Imagine if a board were to come down and cut off your legs from above and it would fall right at your waist line. I imagine my pelvic floor (or a part of it) orientated like a board sitting in that position then I conciously relax the plane on each side of genitals. This has helped substantially. Also, in reading Claire Davies book on triggerpoint I remember reading something he said along the lines of the that for the sake of relaxation and massage you can imagine the muscles at the base of your penis where it meets your testicles as a sort of oval shaped cup of muscles (much like you would imagine a vagina) and visualizing this area in this way has really opened me up to a lot of new sensations down there and helped me relax.
One question I have, I have noticed when I concentrate on relaxing the muscles I often get a sort of quick tensing of flicking of the muscle when I try to relax it, like a short, painless spasm. Does anyone else feel this? Especially when I try to relax the muscles around the base of the penis.

excellent post. very helpful. and yes, I often get the painless flicking of muscles when deeply relaxing them. I think this is a harmless, actually good response. I believe it has something to do with the fascia tissue actually letting go, releasing.

As a side note, I also experience bouts of anxiety when I'm doing relaxation. I think this is due to my mind "letting its guard down".
This is NOT medical advice. I am NOT a doctor.
