I have tried everything, and no matter what I do or try I get this horrible burning in my urethra after urinating. I never know when its going to be mild or put me into a panic until I'm done urinating. I went for PT a couple of times and they have all said my pelvic floor is VERY tight. I know I need to start PT on a regular basis, but its hard (because it causes the burning to be almost unbearable for the next 7 to 12 days). I know I need to get myself to stick it out and deal w/ the pain it causes, but in the back of my mind I think to myself should I go in for PT and know I'm going to be misserable, or just pray each time I pee it doesnt burn so bad afterwards. Has anyone else with this symptom had the same problem w/ the PT causing the urethral burning to be horrible afterwards? And about how many PT sessions did it take to start feeling better instead of worse?
Thanks,
Gary

Hey I had the same exact burning as you decribe. I am 23 and I have had chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome for a year and a half now. I'm am glad to say I have not had the burning after urination for the past 8 months or so. But I remember, I would feel fine till I went pee and then afterwards the burning would last for houres it was the worst part of CPPS. I also had burning after ajactultion which is also gone. I noticed a difference as soon as I started to drink only bottled water. I mixed some tang with it and shook it up I drink 2-3 bottels a day. I also remember the burn starting when I was on levaquin which is the worst drug they give you for chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome stop it imidately if your on it or any anit biotics for that matter. so my advice is no alchol or soda or caffene drinks limit ajaculation to 3 times a week and drink only poland spring or apple juice and I promise you will feel better. I am also taking prosta protek for the last mounth and a half and have noticed good results so far.

When I first started PT in October, my pain was HORRIBLE. I didn't have much burning during urination, but I had so much testicle pain, scotum pain, rectal pain, I was not able to have sex, sit for long, or really have any days without heavy pain killers. The first 3 weeks I had PT, I think I did 10 sessions. I figured that if the first session was going to cause a lot of pain, I might as well get in as much work as I could as long as the pain was going to be bad anyway.
If your symptoms are related to a tight pelvic floor, then you need therapy. You can't get around this fact. And it's going to hurt. You just have to push through it no matter what. It will probably be bad for a month or two, but this will be the worst months. But if you make up your mind not to fear the pain, you'll be better off.
Does urination feel better after stretching? After a warm bath? With muscle relaxants? Use your full arsenal of tricks to get you through this tough period. I'm sorry you have to be in so much pain right now. I feel for you, since I've been there. But only by pushing forward with my treatments was I able to get better. After my therapy sessions, I did double-time on my stretching, relaxation, hot-tubs, warm baths, etc... I poured it all on and focussed 100% on myself for a two month period. If you have a spouse or girlfriend, they can do the PT too.
But the WORST thing you can do is to do SOME therapy, and then back off for a week or two or more, then do some more. All you are going to do here is prolong your pain and make it more spread out. You might also want to talk to your doctor about what you are going through, and what you are planning to do, and get a heavier dose of pain killers/muscle relaxants for the next month or two. It doesn't hurt to be armed to the teeth and then not use them.
BTW in my case, it took almost 2 months for me to notice my first improvements, and I considered myself a very bad case of CPPS. I had it for 4 years before my first PT session. After 4 months, I think things started to settle a bit. I'm now 5 months in, and I don't take pain killers regularily, and my sex life is slowly returning (once per week right now as my pain dictates). I still have pain almost daily, but it is manageable and no comparison to what it was 5 months ago.

Thank You guys very much for your responses!!!! I Think a big part of this paticular flare up is stress related. I have mentioned it before, but I have my own construction business and in th past week, I have had three home rehabs going on at once, had to buy a new work truck (parting w/ this much money makes me sick to my stomach). I work a good 12-13 hrs a day six days a week and can't figure out where the money is at. My son had his first birthday party Saturday and I was an hour late because I had to finish a job. I have been unbelievably stressed out over the past two weeks and I know its making matters worse. I have been taking 20mgs a day of vallium, 1 -2 ultrams and Pyridium plus once a day. I also havent streched or done any relaxation in 2 weeks. I almost feel like I'm on the verge of a nervous breakdown ( really just need some stress relief)!! I have been dealing with this for 10 years, so I know Ill get through it, like I always do. Well thats my pitty story
I really need to learn to relax, my stomach has also felt all notted up lately, guess thats related to the stress and flare up. Thanks again!!!

Sounds like you have some of the answers you need already. All I know about stress is that my current bout with chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome started during the most stressful time of my life. I can't say enough about stress-reduction, relaxation, and general well-being. I hope you can get through it!
Also, consider taking some stress relaxation classes. They REALLY helped me when I was at my worst. They give you a lot of thoughts to have floating around in your head to help you out. Definitely worth the 2 hours.
