I have just celebrated my fourth anniversery of this debilatating diease. I am pleading with my doctors to step up the efforts to try and do something. Mental health state is continually degrading. There is not a minute of my life that goes by without thinking of this illness. I have been reading some of the response in the form and it has promted me to bring some of these facts to my doctors.Due to the fact I can't sit very long this message will be short. I am encoraged by some of the things I have read and look forward to educating myself further of this horible illness.

Steamboat,

Take heart. You are not alone. Everyone one this board and many more not on this board have experienced the exact symptoms you are experiencing. Depression, anxiety, fatigue, physical and emotional depletion. There are measures you can take to improve. There will be set backs, but with rebounds. Do not be afraid to talk to your doctor about how you feel, not just physically, but emotionaly. If he/she seems to down play this and make it seem unimportant, ask for a referal to another doctor. An experienced and caring uro will understand and help you with medication. Ultimately only you can, and must take charge of your health. Come clean and spill your guts to your doctor. Hopeful he will respond appropriately. How badly do you want to improve? Read through the posts and educate yourself for your next appointment. Don't be afraid to challenge your doc with GOOD infomation. Don't act like you know more, just ask intellegent and educated questions which lead to a positive discussion. Doctors like educated patients. You have to take some charge role.

Hi Steamboat,

Paxil helped me enourmously w/ the "mental health" side of CP. Also, for breakout pain relief, I suggest working closely with a reputable Pain-Doc who can guide you safely through the use of pain meds (ultram, oxycontin, vicoden), which can help dramatically in breaking the pain cycle and giving you relief/comfort. These (2) strategies have worked very well for me.
