The last few months have been hell... I've picked up Acute Bacterial prostatitis according to the Doc. I felt like I'd been kicked in the penis daily, the pain was bad and the advil were dropping fast. Now that pain isn't too bad
(let me slow down... I was on antibiotics for a month+ and went off them two weeks ago.. the doctor said to wait 2 months and the pain SHOULD go away, if not, I need to revisit him.. back to the story)
but I have a new problem. I feel like I constantly have something up my butt. Like I need to go take a crap bad. Of course that is my enlarged prostate Should I be concerned that I'm only now beginning to feel this.. or would things normally progress to this point. I don't know whether to schedule an emergency/quick appointment with my urologist. And is it normal for somebody with my ailment to feel so clearly this enlargment? It isn't horribly painful but it IS horribly annoying.
The feeling of something in your butt (golf ball sensation) is very common and isn't your prostate. Do a search on this forum for lots of posts on that sensation (including the link in my signature).

Thanks very much for the reply. I'm off to work and gave a quick search for the "golf ball" sensation. I still can't seem to find WHAT I'm feeling up there if it isn't my prostate. Sorry if I'm overlooking it, but what AM I feeling if not my prostate?
I'm glad to have found this forum and can appreciate some people's anxiety and depression which is what I went through for MONTHS. After all this time now I accept my condition, and at the same time prepare myself for the worst. Nothing would surprise me now!
Your butt pain may very well be the result of trigger points in your pelvic musculature. Do some reading on trigger points on this forum and check out postings about the Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol.
Age: 31 Previous symptoms: penile pain, pain in the rectum, occasional shooting pain in the perineum. Helped by: relaxing / meditation, internal massage, abdominal massage, stretching Makes worse: stress, being out of comfort zone. Current symptoms: Occasional mild soarness. www.kroniskprostatitt.com95 % better
Triggerpoints in the internal Levator Ani , Coccygeus or Obturator Internus muscles in the pelvic floor or triggerpoints in the external Adductor Magnus muscle can give the golf-ball-in-the-rectum feeling.
Edited to add that it's always recommended to have a doctor/urologist rule out prostate enlargement. For most of us our prostates are fine size-wise and it's the muscles that are causing the sensation.
I thought my prostate was enlarged too for the longest time, but for me it turned out to be overly taut muscles that were clumped up like a rock. The more tension I have there, the more I get that "golf-ball" feeling. The more I get the "golf-ball" feeling, the more pain I have.
Get yourself checked out by a doctor. Make sure you don't have bacterial problems (you said you were on antibiotics but that doesn't tell anyone in this forum whether you had an infection since many of us were put on them without infections). And check for an enlarged prostate. And READ all the pages on this site (especially the "new to this site" section), and a lot of posts.
You may be "prepared for the worst", but your problems may be within your reach. Hopefully with some early treatment of the problem you can avoid the worst of the pain.

This is NOT medical advice. I am NOT a doctor. Age: 43 CPPS: 10+ Yrs Recovery Status: 80-85% Symptoms: Pain in testicles, scrotum, rectum, prostate, perineum Makes Worse: Anxiety, Tension, too much Nookie Makes Better: Stretching, Abdominal Massage (Go Theracane!), Relaxation
Thanks for all the feedback guys. The good news is that this golf ball pain has decreased GREATLY. After a few days it began to get better quick. I still feel something isn't quite right in there, but I feel so much better.
I will be having a follow-up with my doc in about 6 weeks so we'll see how I progress until then.
A related question: it seems prostatitis is something that doesn't always go away. In other words, I'll have to live with it in some degree perhaps for the rest of my years?
