Hi All,
I am interested to find out about how to get some sleep with this condition without the use of sleeping pills etc. I have used a variety of sleeping pills and they have lost their potency and stopped working after a while.
Can anyone give me any suggestions of what else can be tried to get some sleep.
Many thanks.
George

I found chamomile tea very relaxing (see webslave's post on chamomile too), and passion flower (350mg), valerian root (500mg) and kava kava (500mg) would help me get some sleep and even took the edge off my abdominal and thigh pain. They didn't keep me asleep though, as medications might, but at least I was able to drift off and get several hours of deep sleep. None of these substances is addictive. I was given a bottle of Kava P.M. that contains kava kava, chamomile and melatonin. It worked well for me.
One caution, I have read that pregnant women should not have chamomile as it can cause miscarriage, so make sure that they don't try to use it to relax.

Hi,
I found that sleeping with a "hot water bottle" between my legs helped. I did that for a few months. A hot water bottle is a rubber sack you can fill with water, and you can usually get one at a drug store.
I don't think you should use an electric heating pad unless you can set it on a timer mode and not accidentally leave it on late into the night. A hot water bottle will cool off after you are asleep, where an an electric pad without a good timer will just keep on heating (infertility, anyone?)

* Age:33 Onset: February 2004.
* 99.9% IMPROVEMENT in 2.5 Years with the first year being the really hard part
* Current Symptoms: Mild irritation of perineal muscles on occasion. Relieved for days at a time by a specific stretch (see below).
* Initial Symptoms: Terrible penile, urethral, rectal, and perineal burning/aching with addition afferent sensations.
* Current Treatments: Deep stretching of the legs and pelvis. Most effective: Deep psoas and levitar ani stretch using the first phase of the "pigeon pose" from Yoga. When a deep pulling is felt in the middle of the pelvis next to the upper rectum, symptoms are completely alleviated for several days.
* Past Treatments Hyperprotection of the perineum for 1.7 years, Walking, Rectal biofeedback, Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol, Conditioned deep relaxation practice, Men's Multi-Vitamin and an Extra B-complex pill, all seemed to help.

Ooooh, those gel things are great. I got one after I didn't need a heater pad anymore, but I wish I had had it earlier.
Yeah, get one of those instead of the bottle!
