How long does it get worse before it gets better?

Post by benzo »

First I've posted my story here: viewtopic.php?t=2496

I've been doing the AHIP stretches for about 2 weeks, together with myofascial release by a PT. On the first session he performed dry needling on the lower abs, on the second session last week he released some tp in my back and again in the abs.
I don't know if this is related but the day after a thorough stretching session I seem to experience a very painful flareup.
Yesterday I did a moderate workout session and topped it off with 25 mins of stretching.
Today I'm in great pain: my testicles feel sore, the area around my pubic bone hurts (a real burning, infection-like feeling) and my sit bones are extremely sensitive with the pain radiating to my lower back.
I'm *hoping* this is a good sign but to be honest I don't even know anymore...Suppose this flareup is due to very tense muscles being stretched, how long do you have to suffer before there actually any improvement?
This is driving me nuts!
Mind you, I've been having problems for 8 years now...

I've had flare-ups from physio sessions that have taken a week to calm back down again.

I found that the worst flare ups occurred during the first 6 weeks of treatment. After that, the flare ups were SHORTER in duration, and less intense. You have to fight through the initial flare ups though since you are breaking down the worst of the worst in your battle with trigger points. After that, even though you might still be working on the same muscles (they can take numerous months or longer to heal), the level of pain they will exude will be less than your initial treatments. Of course, thanks to the 2 steps forward, 1 step back model that applies to us, you WILL have some flare ups that bring you right back to square one. But hopefully they'll be shorter than before you started. Give it 2-3 months before starting to focus on whether things are working. Just be a lemming and do the stretching and do the therapy and stay above water. You will hopefully see some results by the end of that period that encourage you to keep going.
