Straining & trigger points

Post by kevin »

Has anybody here had consequences to straining upon trying to urinate?

Last week my uro prescribed me some anticholinergics (Detrol, Oxytrol), which, in combination with the pseudoephedrine I was taking, caused significant hesitancy (I would often need something to the order of five minutes to begin urinating). As a result, I often had to strain to begin voiding. The hesitancy has gone down in the past week, but lately I've noticed some soreness in my abs. Today, I pressed down above my pubic bone and felt a sharp pain radiate through my pelvis. It felt like what I imagine a trigger point must feel like.

My uro told me that the hesitancy caused by anticholinergics was not dangerous, but I'm wondering if this side effect might be. Is this how trigger points come about?
Started: Spring 2003; high urinary frequency and pain associated with bladder filling; urinary hesitancy; pubic/prostate/perineal discomfort; Helped by: trigger point therapy, Afrin nasal spray, Cymbalta, hydrocodone (small doses), distraction. Makes worse: sex.
