Is there any new medicine for IC (urgency, frequency)?

Post by jori »

My condition hasn't changed for the last five or six years. I would like to get new hope. The major problem is frequency / urgency. And please don't start talking about overactive bladder syndrome which I definitely don't have. But I don't care if there would be any medicine that makes the bladder less sensitive. The problem is somewhere in the nerves.

Have you tried Elavil or Flomax? The combination has worked well for me for treating frequency and urgency. Flomax took a month or so to see results though.

Medications for the treatment of IC: Atarax, Elavil, Elmiron, Cysta-Q, Prelief, and Ester-C. There aren't any new, exciting IC medications out yet of which I am aware.

My frequency was dramatically effected by beer which I cut out of my diet. Spicy foods also very bad. If you are going every hour, Flomax offers some degree of enhanced control but it also causes sexual problems and makes you very tired. Personally I did not like it.

I found the most help with Prelief before meals.
Age: 44 | Symptoms: Pain in pelvis, Post urination drip. Helped by: Squat stretching, PT, Prelief before banned foods, Vit B, Cystoprotec AFTER foods, singulair after foods, Exercise. Makes worse: Stress, Alcohol (1-2 days after), coffee, Artificial sweeteners, chocolate, tonic Wheat/gluten. Drink a lot of water!!! 95% better to date!

(Uro)Xatral offers the benefits of Flomax without the sexual side effects. Try it instead. I also found Prosta Protek useful for the urgency/frequency/pain symptoms.

I don't like either Xatral or Flomax. They've always just worsened my symptoms, in particular the urination flow, which always becomes more unsteady when I'm on them. Also, I don't like the retrograde ejaculation - to me that's just not natural. Add the other sexual side-effects to that and I have ruled it out as a treatment for me.

Did both Uroxatral and Flomax cause the RE, or just the latter?

I agree. My urinary flow always screws up on Flomax and the retrograde ejaculation is freaky. I thought it was meant to help urinary flow?
