Diet related -- Black cherry juice

Post by Sync »

Hello,
I was researching black beans for a vegetarian diet, and I came across a blurb that they are high in purines. Purines cause an increase in uric acid. Sugar causes an increase in uric acid too, which causes flares. Uric acid also causes gout. The best remedy for gout is to drink black cherry juice because it neutralizes uric acid. So, could drinking black cherry juice help with controlling a flare-up? This is just something I wondered about. Please let me know if this wouldn't work. Thankfully, I haven't had a problem in a while, so I haven't needed to try this. But, I just wanted to know if anyone on here had any ideas on this or if I'm just way off. Anyways, thanks everyone.

Acids

Post by Richie »

I ran by my urologist the intake of various acidic drinks. He pointed out that its critical not what goes in but what the liquid is converted to once it goes past the kidneys, eg suger = acid. He indicated cranberry juice is one of the rare drinks not converted, therefore keeping itself high in acid and therefore in hospitable to bacteria. Needless to say, he is old school.

If we assume that acid has an impact on muscle spasm(along with dehydration I might add), that may explain the problems with beer, etc.

I am just looking to find something that could theoretically keep the acids to a minimum or even increase PH in the tract to mitigate the effect of this trigger for me.
