Pain killer recommendations besides Vicodin

Post by tacoma13 »

I have been using the occasional Vicodin when my symptoms are just too much to bear. Well, lately I've had a stomach virus which seems to have aggravated my IBS. Now when I take the Vicodin it kills my stomach even when I take it with food. For the docs on here, and also for those that might have experience, is/are there pain killers like Vicadin that don't cause an upset stomach? I'm going to the pain doc on Monday and I'm going to ask him for whatever you guys recommend.

Thanks!

All pain-killers do share some of the side effects of vicodine. I would rather advise you to try sacral neuromodulation (an invasive procedure) since the neuromodulation protocol we use is not available in the US (it is non-invasive).

I just did some searching on sacral neuromodulation. I see it mentioned a lot for urinary retention and IC type symtoms, neither of which I have currently. My pain is usually centered in the testes, and sometimes in the pelvic area around the left side of the pelvise, starting near the top left notch of the pubic bone and radiating down towards the testes. Sometimes I even get a little back pain with it. You still think neuromodulation can help this? Neurontin and Elavil did not help me, so what I have been doing it just living with the pain and taking the vicodin as needed. Personally, I think I have nerve damage, but that is a diagnosis of exclusion.

=====You are right that classical neuromodulation (used for IC) will probably provide little relief. What I would suggest is that you find a pain specialist or a physical therapist who can perform external neurostimulation or neuromodulation.

=====I don't think it's a diagnosis of exclusion but under your circumstances, yes.
