Ultram
I have noticed a lot of people seem to get relief from ultram. I have tried ultram for extended periods ( 2/3 weeks) with very little relief. My condition started in my late 20's and I am currently 49. I could get by with OTC painkillers up until 2 years ago when my prostrate started to remain swollen. It ranges from a good day 25% or so swollen to bad days when it's doubled in size. ( I have had so many exams I can gage the size pretty good) I am totally fustrated with MD's at this point as they are more concerned about prescribing a narcotic painkiller than with dealing with my problem. I am open to any suggestions or comments.
Thank You

My Pain
I think I could write a book on my experience with this prostate curse.
I have had all the symptoms and areas of pain others are reporting in your website. ( Burning in the Urethara, Testicals, abdominal ect..) As time as passed however, the burning is rare and I have had no testical pain or frequent urination. ( My stream is good) My pain is a very painful throbbing in the prostrate coupled with a feeling of an impending bowel movement. The swelling get so bad that it restricts my bowel movement ( comes out like a thin rope ) I have been told by Urologist that this is impossible as my prostrate is to far from my colon to interfere. I'm hear to tell you they are dead wrong on this one. This is usually my first indication I'm about to have one very painful episode. My usual remedy was to take 1 or 1.5 vicodin tabs as long as the problem persisted. My doctor has now told me he will not prescribe them any more and I must go to a pain specialist. I have had my emails answered on pain.com about this treatment and the Dr. thought if I could manage my pain with 1 ot 2 Vicodin a day I should stick with it. Dealing with the pain and the medical profession is the most fustrating thing I have ever encountered.

Re: My Pain
Thin stool is more likely a result of spasm of the pelvic muscles.Fustrated wrote:The swelling get so bad that it restricts my bowel movement ( comes out like a thin rope ) I have been told by Urologist that this is impossible as my prostrate is to far from my colon to interfere.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

Mark - would anti-inflamatory drugs have any effect on the prostate?

Some studies have shown that NSAIDS do have a mild positive effect, & some men find them very effective (not a lot of men though). Many others find that they cause gastric symptoms.

Pelvic spasm
Guys, This is what the urologist told me, the problem is pelvic or colon spasm. I know my own body and I can tell you the my prostrate swells to the size of a small lemon and restricts my bowl movement. This is my fustration, no one ( especially urologist ) seems to understand that it can happen and its very painful when it does.

I've just started on a Cox-2 inhibtor today (after ibuprofen chewed by insides up). Unfortunately I'm starting to get symptoms again with the cox-2 tabs so it might not be for me.webslave wrote:....Many others find that they cause gastric symptoms.

Re: Pelvic spasm
Have you looked into treatment for pelvic/colin spasm, so you can definately cross it off the list?Fustrated wrote:....This is what the urologist told me, the problem is pelvic or colon spasm......

Re: Pelvic spasm
This is nonsense. If your prostate swelled to the size that could cause fecal impedance, you'd have the worst case of BPH ever seen, not CPPS. Not even men with huge prostates caused by BPH have stool blockage. It's just your fantasy, unless you have a bad case of BPH.Fustrated wrote:Guys, This is what the urologist told me, the problem is pelvic or colon spasm. Thin, pencil-like feces ... a lovely article relating to this, to spasms of the colon (spastic colon), circa 1925. Nice read:

Google, surprisingly enough, is another good source of info, click here.

Sorry that you're in so much discomfort but when you ask for opinions and advice then be prepared to get some. But no point asking for them if you won't take anything onboard that doesn't exactly fit with what you already believe.fustrated wrote:Fantasy? My prostrate doubles in size. The MD that treats me can't beleive it either. As I've stated, this is unusal and a real bear to live with. I won't get back on this forum as again, no one seems to know what the hell to do with me.
