Flomax questions

Post by GS »

Hi everyone- I have had chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome for the past 7 mos. Main symptom is urinary frequency/urgency. Took 2 weeks of Cipro and 8 weeks of levaquin with not much change. Have been on any accredited quercetin product for 3 mos with mild improvement. Uro started me on Flomax 4 days ago. I took 2 dosages and then stopped because I felt more pain in the penis and some burning on urination. It did seem to increase urine flow rate. My uro said it could take a month for me to see any change on Flomax. Has anyone else had this experience with Flomax. Should I have just continued the Flomax for the full month before making any judgements. Since stopping the Flomax, the pain in the penis has gone. Any and all comments are appreciated. Thanks.

Keep taking the Flomax for sure. I am also on it, and it did take about a month to kick in fully. When I first starting taking the drug, I too had some penis pain and discomfort. I don't think it really has much to do with Flomax, and is simply a symptom of CP/CPPS. Now, after taking the drug for almost 2 months, modifying my diet, and sticking to the supplements, I am symptom-free. Better yet, the Flomax helps me sleep at night, and for the first time in 10 years! I have slept through the night without waking up to use the toilet.

Just be patient with it. Take it at night around 9pm, on an empty stomach.

Carlton, you should put your story in the "success stories" section.

In my experience Flomax worked almost immediately.

Carlton - if you've ever taken them in the past, do you find that nasal decongestants take time to work?

I only ask as they have the opposite effect to Flomax and this would add a bit of intrigue to why some people's positive experience with Flomax is immediate and others take time.

Here is what I found with Flomax
week one: increase of urine volume. Easier to start urinating. Some retrograde ejaculation.
week three: decrease in urgency.
week five: decrease in frequency.

I don't generally take decongestants.

Hey guys, do you take one or two Flomax capsules? (I think it's .4 or.8 mg)

I take 0.4mg MR which is timed release. I gather that there may be an advantage to taking the non-MR version at night in that it can help you sleep. right Carlton?

I take the .4 variety at night, but not the MR. And yes, it does help with sleep and nighttime urination.

stick with it

stick with it brother if you can handle it. I am 19 years old. I have had this thing for 6 years. my biggest downfall has been my inability to keep with medications. I am on elmiron now and tend to keep doing this for a year . we'll see what happeneds.

genny, you say you're 19 now and you've had CP for 6 years? So you came down with it when you were 13? Wow - no offense, I just feel for you greatly. That seems extraordinarily young for CP. I am 19 as well, but my CP began just this past summer. How have you dealt with ii all this time? Do you find that your medications effectively control your symptoms? If so, what's your protocol?

I just started my Flomax last wednesday after suffering for almost 8 months. I noticed a dramatic decrease in symptoms and discomfort about 48 hours later. I did my cardio routine this morning for the first time without a worry. Felt great. Although today I did urinate with a severe burning sensation. I'm hoping it was the szechuan chicken I had for dinner last night.

How long do people usually stay on Flomax?

When to take Flomax

Post by MidnightElk »

Thanks for the information on taking the Flomax at night before bed. I was following the urologist's idea of taking it 20 minutes after eating daily. I felt really "bummed out" for several hours after taking it this way.
Now that I've switched to taking it at bedtime, I am able to sleep off the side effects and it is much more tolerable.

There is a one a day modified release version of Flomax available that you can take any time of day. I have been using it for six months (apart from a brief flirtation with Cardura). Still getting retrograde ejaculation though :(

Time released Flomax

Post by MidnightElk »

I'll keep that in mind Richard N. I'm going to see the Uro next week. Might mention it to him. Although, I'm doing really well with what I'm taking now. I had Retrograde for about the first 2 weeks. Some of that, I think was due to a prostate biopsy. I think he did six sticks. Anyway, it's been a month now and the retrograde has stopped. So I'm happy. Also taking Singulair for sinusitis and using a little nasonex. Allergy season you know.
Thanks
