New guy with leg pain.

Post by sublime »

Hello, I have been lurking here for a few weeks now. I was diagnosed with
prostatitis about 3 weeks ago after visiting a uro with testicular pain,
urethral pain after urinating (which is now also during and after), major
bladder pain radiating up to my chest, back pain, and generalized pubic
pain. He did a DRE and urinalysis but no cultures. He diagnosed me with
prostatitis possibly due to ureaplasma and some other bugs he mentioned,
which I can't remember, based on my age (30) and history he thought it to be
bacterial although I'm sure this was wishful thinking on his part. He also
mentioned that upon my next visit, a few weeks from now, that he would
investigate strictures and my history of kidney stones which I have had 2
removed with basket. I have been taking doxycycline for a few weeks and some
pain has subsided, mostly the testicular and bladder pain which I am
thankful for. ANYWAY, now I am still having some burning in the urethra,
back pain, and MAJOR fatigue and muscle soreness in my legs and back.
Everyday I honestly feel like I have run a marathon the day before and this
has been going on for about a week. Anybody else ever had this type of pain
in their legs? Just curious if anyone else experiences or has experienced
this type of manifestation and at what point they have had this and how
often. I feel very frustrated right now since I was not diagnosed with
"acute" prostatitis, well, that leaves chronic which means I will be plagued
with mysterious affliction for a long time to come like many of you guys
here. Plus, I just don't know if I have bacteria lurking inside of me or
not, and yes I have read about all of the ins and outs of that dilemma.
Thanks for any feedback one might offer.

sublime,

look into taking care of the stricture problem as well as any bacteria. Urethral stricture can cause all sorts of weird symptoms, from urine reflux, to penis pain. If the prostte gets irritated enough, I'm sure the pain can pass down into the legs.

Ask your doctor about Flomax, which helps alleviate stricture issues. There is a simple surgery option as well, but I would only go that route if nothing else seems to work.

Are you a big coffee drinker? Alcohol? Lots of spicy food? I had to cut all this stuff from my diet, since I basically drank 4 cups of coffee a day, ate Indian and Thai food all the time, and drank on the weekends. Not good for the prostate or the bladder.

I would also recommend stretching and exercise (but not too heavy). Swimming seems to help me. Hot tubs are good for relieving pain and muscle tension.

It is my understanding that acute bacterial prostatitis will yield a positive urinalysis, and usually ends up in a hospital visit. It seems to me that you have something similar to what I have, which is the mysterious "abacterial" kind. I don't think this has much to do with bacteria. I think it is an autoimmune/nerve disorder, made worse through allergic reactions to food and drink. I have not taken any antibiotics, and after 3 months of CP, I am symptom-free.
