Why do our libido's drop after CPPS?

Post by one day... »

I think one of the most overlooked symptom's, with Pelvic pain is the fact that our libido's drop after getting it. I looked at an interesting therory, I think it was Darwin, that said, When a man's libido drops for unknown reasons, meaning at an early age, his therory is that nature does this because it does not want unhealthy men to reproduce. I can buy into that, but also can fathom bti20's overuse therory..... My own libido can wax and wan like the rest of my symptoms, but this one seem's to be the toughest symptom to get rid of. Meaning, I have learned how to keep pain to almost zero, and can get my urinary symptoms under control, with diet. even erections come most of the time when I want them now, but can't find that last peice to the puzzle with libido. Can some of the guy's who have had triggerpoint therapy and are skilled in relaxation advise me if that comes back after they are treated? Is this the last piece of the puzzle? If Darwin is correct, and we become healthy again will it allow us to want to reproduce again? Thank's Thomas

I wouldn't put much thought into Darwin regarding your libido. How about pain avoidance. For me I am still sexual even with chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome but I do have a fear of pain. I know after sex my pelvis will feel all bound up and my daily discomfort will be worse. I avoid sex sometimes just to avoid pain. Fear and sexuality don't go together very well. When your male parts are in discomfort you naturally don't feel very sexual.

I think pain per se is enough to put you off doing many things you normally would, let alone having sex.

Here's an example: Summer is here and my libido is up. I fell off my mountain board badly last night and have spent part of today in casualty. It's cooled my ardour somewhat I can tell you :-D

Symptoms (back then): Supra-pubic pain, back pain, urinary frequency, urgency and difficulty, weak stream, nocturia, (and variously) chronic fatigue, IBS. Current symptoms: more frequent than normal, but pretty much under control. Current amelioration: Xatral 10mg, Mirtazapine 30mg. | Worsened By: Stress, binge drinking, strained bowel movements, bloating, sitting on hard surfaces, jogging, and regularly - THE WINTER!

I think there can be a number of reasons for this, including the anticipation of pain, lack of sleep if you have to get up during the night several times to urinate, and also the possible stress and depression of coming to terms with what is a serieous and life-altering condition.
This is not Medical advice - Consult your Doctor!

Age:39. Age at onset:31. Symptoms prior to treatment: Golf ball in rectum, severe urinary frequency (2-3x/hr; 5-10x/night); weak stream; painful ejaculation; coccygeal pain; tip of penis pain; general pelvic pain on left; testicular pain; supra-pubic pain. Current | Symptoms: Urinary frequency 1x every 2-3 hrs and 1-2 x a night; mild pelvic pain on left hand side (all symptoms still improving!)
Helped by: Trigger point release; avoiding exercise; pelvic floor relaxation; Neurontin decreased bladder sensitivity somewhat. Worsened by: Exercise; frequent ejaculation; ibuprofen irritates bladder. Made no difference: Diet; biofeedback; quercetin; Steroid anti-inflammatories; Elavil.

****UPDATE*** I am now able to sit again at work all day, and can perform moderate aerobic exersise again for the first time in 8 years!!!

Hi,
I "celebrate" one year anniversary of this dreadfull condition this week :-( and have to say, that during entire period I have not noticed any decline in my sexual libido. So, I think that there must not be necessarily link between having chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome and decline of libido.
However, my sexual life is not as jaunty as used to be. Not because of change in my sexual libido, but because fear from the possible consequent pain after sex.

The n02 I take is made by MRI. They invented it. Another brand might do you just as well, I have never tried them, but I know they are cheaper in price. I have taken this for I think two weeks now, and it still is doing the job for erection's, If you do get this product, start with half of the suggested dosage, that dosage is for wieght lifting benifits, and find it to intense. a couple a day will do the job for E.D. You might want to give yohimbe a try as well, it works more on your libido than erection. Again though be careful with both of these supplements, start with a little and move up if desired, yohimbe, has a very powerful stimulant effect and can be dangerous, I just find the two, to be a better alternitive to viagra because I can take them every morning and not have to time everything as with Viagra. Wich has only one function, and does nothing for your libido. It has also made my ejaculatory volume almost back to normal. Good luck. Thomas
