CAN WORKING TRIGGER POINTS INCREASE PAIN?

Post by GARYS »

Can working trigger points actually make things worse? I purchased a book on self treatment of trigger points and have only been doing this for a few days but things seem to be worse. Is this common, and should I continue. And if you hit a trigger point should it re create symptoms or just feel tender where I'm pushing.

initially, working the trigger points in the pelvis can make you feel worse because they are so tight and you probably unknowingly tense up against the massage. I'm no doctor/therapist but I've heard it's not entirely safe to do it on yourself, so if you continue to feel worse I'd stop or go easier. I think hitting the trigger point can either feel tender or recreate the pain. What's the name of the book?

Increased pain/discomfort is very common after triggerpoint treatment - and it will always be tender when pushing (if it doesn't hurt then it's not a triggerpoint) and can often recreate the symptoms (internal work for example often recreates frequency or penis pain for me).

The increasee pain/discomfort after triggerpoint work can last from 5 minutes to 5 days.

thanks for the responces. The name of the book is THE TRIGGER POINT THERAPY WORKBOOK by Clair Davies. I think the book is somewhere on this site, thats where I seen it and ordered it. It seems to be a pretty good book, and it does talk about pelvic pain.
