Cipro Helps

Post by pvdiamon »

I seem to have prostatodynia (or some variant of CPPS) but developed acute prostatitis on top of it. There was a remarkable response to Cipro, but the chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome remained and seemed to be getting better on Quercetin, until the acute symptoms reappeared. They involve urinary urgency, a clearly different pattern of pain than the chronic pain. I saw some reference here to Cipro as an Anti-inflammatory. Is there evidence that Cipro helps non-bacterial prostatitis? Any references on that? (Today urine was clean, and Uro said the prostate was small and not boggy, and could not express fluid after massage, but acute UTI-like symptom remains, making me think it may be non-bacterial, but the same symptom responded dramatically to Cipro 2 months ago.)

Cipro may help symptoms, but watch out for side effects. Joint and tendon pain among others.

If Cipro works for you great . But with me the second time around after being on it for months it would not take the pain away . The side effects were not worth it . I then found this web site and have refused all anti biotics and feel a lot better . Read as many stories as you can and see what you want to try . There are a lot better options . And most of them are cheaper than Cipro .

I am puzzled by the rapid response to Cipro. Within two doses, remarkable change in the urinary urgency (the one symptom I have that seems more acute in nature, rather than the chronic pain syndrome). It seems unlikely for Cipro to be hitting bacteria so quickly, but if it is the anti-inflammatory effect, why don't real anti-inflammatories work? Has anyone ever tried steroids (obviously not for chronic use, but a response would be intriguing)?

Antibiotics, when working as anti-inflammatories, do not work the same way as NSAIDS. Do not compare them.

Many men report a degree of sucess with direct injection of immunosuppressants (steroids) into the prostate. These issues have been covered before, please use the "Search" function.

Yes - and I can speak to the effectivness of them in my case- a cocktail of steroids, antibiotics, antifungals, and lidocaine in each prostate lobe and in each seminal vesicle - repeat every 2 weeks until symptoms subside - hurts like hell - but worth it to me. Read details under success story.
