Hello,
I'm 40 and have had CP/CPPS for about a year now. I was wondering if anyone from this group has heard of a Phobia called ( PARURESIS ) It is basicly the inability to urinate in the presence of other people. Sometimes refered as the Bashful Bladder Syndrome. There is a link to it at http://www.paruresis.org/ with a disscusion forum. I have had this condition since my early teens and have told no one except a shrink I went to when I came down with this chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome and it threw me into deep depression. I have had to hold my urin all my life around friends until I could slip away and pee in the privacy of a stall or if in a nightclub or crowded place with just a trough type urinals I would have to go out to the parking lot and find a tree or somthing like it for privacy where I could relax enough to void. Anyway I figure all those years of squeezing my sphincter to hold urin in probably helped me "in my case" to come down with this horrible syndrome. I did a search of this site and it came back with zero hits about Paruresis. Just wondering if I am the only one. I know it's embarising but so isn't CPPS. I used to think being a paruretic was just about as bad as it can get. But chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome makes paruresis look like a walk in the park.

I'd guess that something like paruresis, with the clenching and hypertonicity of the pelvic musculature, as well as the social anxiety that leads to this state, would certainly predispose an individual to pelvic pain.

Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.
