Men and women are having their bladders removed because of IC. IC is considered by many to be CP/CPPS by another name, with the focus of pain a few centimeters further up.

For a great number of obvious reasons, it would be a cold day in Hell before I considered having my bladder removed.
I've seen far too many patients in my career with the types of complications probable from such a procedure. I wouldn't wish any of them on anyone, not even on George Bush. If you think your life sucks now, well, read the posts.

I think there are cases where bladder removal is clearly indicated - e.g. small bladders which result from sclerosis, causing urgency and frequency. Bladder removal for pain almost always results in more pain. When weighing in the pro's and con's of bladder removal of course each person's outcome varies. But I think it has more to do with which doctor performed the surgery and how many surgeries he / she has performed like this in the past. It's also useful if the doctor knew of someone local to you (in your area) or would be willing to give you there phone number so you could ask them how they have progressed since there surgery was performed by the same doctor that might end up performing yours.
