I'm sure glad I've found this website. Just this week by adding chodroitin and glucosamine, claritin, Aleve (naproxen) and ester vit C to my previous Quercetin, pygeum and beta sit I'm doing much better. That leads me to my dilemma.
Many of you suffer from chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome due to muscle tension etc. However, I never had any problems until I took ephedrine and prohormones. I know from my reading that there are other guys on here who have had the same problem. Luckily, it looks like they got better in due time.
I'm trying to understand what causes ephedrine to bring this condition on. I've went from perineum and prosate pain to now having just burning urination and a faint pain in my tailbone. I still get mild spasms near my urethra probably where the muscle that stops our urination is situated.
I'm wondering if I even need pelvic floor massage or some form of myofascial release. The fact that the histamine works along with the other mast cell blockers I wonder if this isn't something I have to ride out.
From my research I've come to see that ephedrine is an alpha antagonist, and there are a lot of alpah receptors in the prostate, thus why the condition originated there. My first big question is, then wouldnt taking Flomax or another alpha blocker make sense? To try to combat any damage alpha receptors are causing? Also is there a Flomax alternative that doesnt cause retrograde ejaculation???
Next, since my muscle spaspms are near the urethra I'm thinking that these muscles along with mast cells are causing my burning. What would I want to request to try to get these muscles to chill for good. I've had Pyridium and its only a temporary cure????
Finally, I'm all ears as to why I've developed pain in the tailbone. I first thought maybe due to the other symptoms I tensed up my pelvic floor and now my levator ani is stressed. I've thought maybe my pudendal nerve is somehow involved here. I'm clueless.
Can someone like webslave and others with a ton of knowledge on all these different factors construct a hypothesis as to why ephedrine can cause this, and given what we know what would be the best course of treatment to cure myself. I see my GP tomorrow and want to be armed with not only what I want to try, but WHY! Thanks so much,
SS

Ephedrine may simply have been a trigger, exposing an underlying condition, just like alcohol or caffeine can trigger symptoms in asymptomatic men. I see no harm in trying an alpha blocker like UroXatral (alfuzosin) (does not cause RE).
If this does not completely subdue symptoms, or subdue them to an extent you find bearable, go on to the next step, such as the Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol.
Pain in the tailbone: pain is referred all over the pelvis via a complex set of neurological mechanisms.

Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

uroxatral was also recommended by another...Ill ask for that along with an anti-inflammatory and some PT. I dont really think my condition warrants muscle relaxants.
