I went to my GP today complaining of urgency to urinate, revolving dull pain between the perineal area and now left side of penis-suprapubic, and some burning upon urinating. (full details in my prev post "Prostatitis?")
He did a DRE-no enlargement, no pain elicitied either. Urinalysis showed nothing--no WBC, no bacteria, sed rate of 1 (which is the lowest it can be), no blood, etc--all was normal. I had to convince him to do a PSA, just for my mind sake. I do have an anxiety problem, so he want to put me back on Lexapro. I am wondering if my anxiety could be causing my discomfort and making me think I have prostate problems?! I have been on Saw Palmetto twice daily- 320 mg for about 5 days now--and the pain has improved and today I feel fine. What's the deal!? any opinions??
thanks

I personally believe that that anxiety is what is causing my symptoms. Just this last weekend past, me and a bunch of my friends all went out together. I was having such a good time that I wasn't even thinking about my symptoms, which in turn seemed to relieve my symptoms almost 100%. When the trip was over I began to notice my symptoms slowly coming back.
How is this, because I'm pretty sure that this isn't all in my head?
Is it?
Age:25 | Onset Age: 23 | Symptoms: Pain in penis, dull throbbing/burning in penis both in tip and shaft, frequent urination, sometimes burning urination, Sometimes slight pain after urinating, slight pain in buttocks | Helped By:Eating healthier, lots of Brocoli, YOGA stretches, Not thinking about it, hot showers | Worsened By: Cold temperatures, "really" spicey foods, anxiety and worry and stress

well, with me, I always assume the worst-no matter what--My anxiety takes over anytime I feel even slightly sick. I hope I'm not a hypochondriac or something :-(
There definitely was something wrong 4 days ago--I felt the burning in the perineal area FOR SURE and was having some straining--however, as I researched prostate disease more, I became more anxious and maybe it made it worse-I'm still waiting for the PSA and urine culture to come back-we'll see then...

Anxiety can cause pelvic pain in some patients, especially if they tense their pelvic floor under stress. If your urine cultures come back negative, it might be a good idea to read the book 'A Headache in the pelvis' to prevent problems in future- Here is the link:
