How is the bladder size determined? How does one know when the bladder is full?

An ultrasound (sonograms) prior to and after urinating can estimate whther you are completely emptying your bladder.

You can also keep a "bladder diary." Record your water intake and measure the amount of urination for about three days.

No, I'm not refering to that. I want to know how the theoretic (non-functional) maximum capacity of bladder is determined objectively, ie, under anesthesia. Is there definite maximum value?
