Could it be your Tailbone?

Post by greggie1 »

I have been suffering for over 10 years with all the usual symtoms. Been to different uro's and had many courses of drugs. I begin to do research and found this site which has lead me down the path to recovery. I bought the Headache in the Pelvis book and began PT. My therapist mentioned right away that my coccyx was bent. I did not even think about how a couple of falls on my tailbone could be the source of my problems. I continued PT and started to improve. My urgency and penis pain went away but I was still having perinial and rectal pain. I started to think that maybe it was my tailbone so I bought a coccyx cushion. Within a few hours of using the cushion I could tell the difference. It has been 3 weeks now and I'm 90% better. I still have inflamation but that is getting better too. If you live on this planet long enough you most likely have had a fall on your tailbone. You owe it to yourself to try a coccyx cushion. It also keeps pressure off your prudential nerve.

I believe that my problem stated with a fall on my tailbone which put the pelvic floor muscles in spasm, irritated the prudential nerve which caused pain in the bladder, perinial and penis.

That is all in keeping with the theory of pelvic myoneuropathy.

I have tried foam cushions but I prefere the one that is inflatable. Go to http://www.businesschairs.com click on coccyx cut out products. I have ordered the coccyx chair. I will let you know how the chair works out.

Yesterday I saw an osteopath experienced in CPP who said my coccyx was bent, and he felt pretty certain I had fractured it some years ago. Said 22, 23 is the age when the coccyx fully fuses or something and hence the onset of CPP at that age. He found a PF trigger pt, which he addressed in approximately the Stanford fashion (ouch). But the main thing he'd gone in for (w/ two fingers, yoww) was to manipulate some tendon or ligament, in which he succeeded. I didn't get to question him very effectively about all this, since he's one of these um, "darn" speed doctors, and I am currently enfeebled by continuous TMJ aches.

FYI, this info is not exactly coming from the western medical mainstream... he palped my skull a bit so I suspect he's one of those D.O.'s who still believe the microfluctuation of cranial plates controls the circulation of cerebrospinal fluid. Mainstream medicine believes these plates are like, totally fused, dude. These days, if what I read is true, most ostepaths agree that they are fused (and have moved mainstream-ward in general - so much so that they are philosophically little different from M.D.s). I dont know much about the cranial plate flux idea and the corresponding therapy of cranial manipulation, but I am extremely suspicious of it.

I think he may be right tho, about the coccyx... his take would perhaps explain why I have all this significant myalgia, arthralgia, and stiffness left over after finally taming PFD to a great degree and (evidently) thus getting rid of (evidently-)myoneropathic pains appearing in the scrotum, urethra (post-ejac), and above all pubis/suprapubis, as well as the pelvis-wide dull pain glow.

I recall falling on my ass on a steep hill and getting my wind knocked out when I was 12 or so, and that seems like a great way to injure the coccyx. There was no lingering pain or anything from that tho; I would definitely remember something like that, I have quite a rare memory. So I dono what to think. I'll definitely get this trigger point seen by him again before I think too much.
