Pudendal Nerve Questions

Post by Andypan »

Dr. Anderson at Stanford suggested that I get a pudendal nerve EMG latency test to determine if the pudendal nerve function is normal or delayed. Can anyone tell me more about this test?

Also, I'm considering getting the Medtronic Interstim device. I know that the interstim targets the sacral nerves. Is the pudendal nerve considered part of the sacral nerves? If not, will the interstim still have an effect on the pudendal nerve?

Andypan,

Take a look at cp.com https://ucpps.men/pudendal-nerve-entrapment-pne for a review of PNE.

Here is another good site: http://pn.jcon.org/faq/PudendalFAQ.htm

Guys, the foremost website on the web right now regarding PNE (pudendal nerve entrapment) or PN (pudendal neuropathy) is at:

http://www.pudendal.info

Rather than get a pudendal nerve EMG, I'd get a pnmlt (pudendal nerve motor latency test). The French are the experts on PNE, and they taught some doctors in Houston (a former PNE patient, who is a doctor and some other doctors who were interested in learning about PNE and are now treating PNE patients) how to properly administer the pnmlt test. There is also another doctor who is very much an expert in electr-diagnostic tsting who lives in Indianapolis who not only does the pnmlt, but 2 other nerve tests as well. Both he and the neurosurgeon in Houston are the only ones in the U.S. doing the PNE surgery, and thus far, with pretty good success. Almost always the patient's pudendal nerve is found to be entrapped during the surgery, but sometimes, the damage done to the nerve is too great for it to regenerate.

I encourage some of you on this site to check out this website. PNE can cause some functional problems, like those normally associated with IC patients, but PNE is mostly known to cause great pain while sitting. If you see yourself with these symptoms, please go to http://www.pudendal.info. Greg
