TB in the prostate
My urologist has ordered a PCR test on urine (for three consecutive days) to check for TB. He explained that cases of "septic" prostatitis are attributed to either chlamydia or TB. TB is making a comeback in many parts of the world, and though he explains that TB in the urogenital system is rare there are several cases that he has come accross in recent years. Thought this maybe helpful to some of you who might be "lucky" and have this condition. He explains that it is treatable but requires a long course of antibiotics for 1 year plus.

CHLAMYDIA AND TB
IF YOU DID NOT TEST POSITIVE FOR ANTIBODY CHLAMYDIAL IGG AND IGA, THEN IT WAS DONE WRONG OR YOU DO NOT HAVE IT. IGA POSITIVE FOR SEMEN IS MEANINGLESS. A PCR IS A DNA TEST FOR THAT ORGANISM. IF YOU TEST POSITIVE FOR IT THEN YOU HAVE. IT IS IN YOUR PROSTATE. IF IT CAN LIVE IN NERVES AND BONE, IT CAN LIVE IN MUCOUS MEMBRANES. IT LIKES IT IN MUCOUS MEMBRANES ABOVE ALL OTHER AREAS. THERE ARE 13 TYPES OF CHLAMYDIA AND THREE COMMON HUMAN TYPES. TEST FOR THE SEXUALLY ACQUIRED ONE AND PNEUMONIAE. ALSO TEST FOR THE MYCOPLASMA TYPES AND LYMES DISEASE (ALL INTRACELLULAR). THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF TREATMENTS FOR THIS PROBLEM: DC1 PRODUCING DENDRITIC CELL VACCINES AND STEM CELL INJECTIONS TO UP YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM. THIS IS WHAT I AM INTERESTED IN. BETA GLUCAN IS AT THE HEALTH FOOD STORE. I KNEW OF A MAN WHO GOT RID OF HIS PROSTATITIS TAKING THIS PRODUCT. ANTIBIOTICS CANNOT COMPLETELY KILL CHLAMYDIA WHEN IT IS DORMANT, IT IS LIKE TB. WRITE ME IF YOU FIND OUT SOMETHING.

Chlamydia and TB
Thanks. I had PCR for chlamydia trachomatis: in the first urine negative. PCR for neisseria gonorrhoe: in the first urine negative. Molecular analysis for the first urine: for 16sRNA (negative). Identical result in the urine after prostatic massage. I couldn't produce EPS so no result here. I had mine done in Giessen/Germany. I know semen PCR is also possible but for some reason they didn't do it. I am thinking about traveling to Italy to redo all tests.
Have you had any tests done, where?
Do you suffer from a recurrent UTI too?

It is important to understand that:
1) Muscle Tension Disorder Does Cause "Prostatitis" and, moreover, most people are not sufficiently "aware" of their pelvic floor muscles to know that they have this problem.
2) Multiple Research Studies have now established that Only 5-8% of all "Prostatitis" is Bacterial and, unless you have some clear evidence of bacterial infection (such as Urinary Tract Infection) then the cause is not likely to be bacterial.
So -- while it makes sense for everyone go start with basic cultures for the pathogens that are assoicated with the 5-8%; and while there's nothing wrong with Pharoah's precauationary test for TB --
If you do get negative cultures, It's backwards and counterproductive to keep searching for the highly unlikely, "mystery bacteria" before you have investigated the far more likely (and definitely treatable!) pelvic floor / inflammatory disorder.
Yes, of course we have all read about the fact that accuracy of bacterial testing varies. But if there is no evidence of urinary tract infection and a "reasonably good" series of tests has yielded negative results, then bacteria becomes a much smaller possibility than pelvic floor disorder. Too many of us have lost time by continuing to fixate on the fact that absolutely optimal testing is not available. So we run from one doctor to another looking for yet more accurate tests. And when these are negative, we are left with the same doubts. Nobody can give us ironclad certaintly that these new tests were picked up everything.
And in cases where the most sensitive tests do detect bacteria, nobody can say that the finding is causal because the organisms could be contaminents or "commensual" organisms that are not causing the condition. (Studies demonstrate that asymptomatic men are just as likely as symptomatic men to test positive for these bacteria. So they can be present without being causal)
First things first! Address the more likely causes/treatments before you go fishing for the things that have far lower probability.

PHAROAH:
LABORATORIES CANNOT PCR SEMEN, IT IS TOO HARD.
WHY DO YOU THINK YOUR PROSTATE INFECTION CAN BE PCR'D FROM YOUR URINE? DID YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT I WROTE YOU? WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO NEXT?
