Is this bacterial or not? Need some advice...please
I had this woman perform oral sex on me, found out the next day that she had chlamydia, so went to the GUM (panicking) and got tested....all negative but was given a 1g dose azythromycin to cover me against the chlamydia.
The next day I started to really panic over this and started to get a tingling feelingin the tip of my penis and sense of urinary frequency and urgency....no discharge, no real burning when I peed.
This went on for a couple of days, I went to my GP who took some samples and gave me a week long course of doxycyclin, I took these over the course of the week and the symptoms improved greatly, (no
urgency, no frequency) I'd say 80%. The tests came back from the GP.....all negative.
Still didn't feel 100% though. One thing I did notice is that the next time I ejaculated the 'cum' was kinda yellow and a bit foul smelling.
Another week passes and I still don't feel 100% so go back to the GUM, tests are repeated, all negative. Doctor has a probe up my ass, no sign of infection, prostate feels ok.
Go home thinking it's in my head.
Over the next couple of weeks thing don't improve a great lot,
still have symptoms, albeit a lot less than when I first started. The
main sysmptoms were general aches and pains in the groin and a kind of hum in the penis which came and went, plus a general feeling that all wasn't quite right. (no urgency or frequency at this stage).
Go to another GUM, they do the usual tests again, all negative.
Ask me to go back again and do an early morning sample, to see if I
have a very slight infection.
Early morning sample is negative.
Doctor thinks it might be prostatitis, could of been acute at first but the doxy helped etc etc so gives me a two week supply of levofloxacin, 500mg twice a day.
So i've been taking them for a week and a half now, and the symptoms have got a bit better, but I'm not 100% still.
Don't think it's herpes (frequency/urgency arent classic signs) plus the symptoms started the very next day, and its not chlamydia or any of the other usual suspects (tested 5 times in total now).
Therefore I think it could be:
1) tension related - as I convinced myself I had an infection causing muscle tightening etc etc.
or
2) acute bacterial prostatitis from the oral sex, which the doxy helped but didn't kill off completely. Would this explain the nasty yellow semen?
Btw, semen is now normal colour. :)
Any comments or suggestions would be very much appreciated.
Cheers,
Lee

From what I've read, acute bacterial prostatitis usually means a spell in hospital and symptoms also include all the usual ones where an organ is infected. Plus, bacteria would be found BY DEFINITION. Best thing to do is to have a read of the main forum and make your own mind up.

OK, another thing to note is the oral sex was not with my regular partner.
I didn't sleep with my partner again until the GUM had given me the all clear for all the usual STD's.
But a week after sleeping with my partner she developed a UTI (urgency/frequency).
Would this suggest I have bacterial prostatitis?

Strange as it may seem, prostatitis, including the inflamed urethra, CAN be "all in your head" inasmuch as your tension and anxiety over the oral sex (guilt?) can lead to a chronic tensing of the pelvic musculature and a pelvic myoneuropathy.

OK, so the chances of it being a bacterial infection must be small, since I had the azythromycin the next day, followed by a course of doxycyclin two days later.
I would of thought it would be difficult for an infection to take hold in that time ( I could be wrong).
Also wouldnt somethingof shown up in the urine samples at some stage (done 1 day after contact, 3 days after contact).
What do you suggest I try?
As I sad the levofloxacin seems to be helping it. I'm due back to the docs on friday, should I get more antibiotics?
The UTI I passed onto my girlfriend is the thing that makes me scratch my head.
I was tested 3 times for NGU, clam, gono etc before I slept with her (over a period of 4 weeks), 5 days after the sex, bam, she has a UTI.
Now if the symptoms were in my head (muscle spasm etc) then I couldnt of given her the UTI. Also, remember before sleeping with her I had 2 lots of antibiotics and the all clear.
Doctor thinks its prostatitis, but prostate exam seems fine.
Puzzles me, what I do know is that I have a fair bit of discomfort in the penis (mainly around the uretha) and the end seems red, kinda like a set of swollen lips.

No. Read this:As I sad the levofloxacin seems to be helping it. I'm due back to the docs on friday, should I get more antibiotics?

UTI? What are her symptoms? Men taking antibiotics ejaculate antibiotic-laden seminal fluids and in so doing totally upset the vaginal flora balance, allowing yeasts to gain predominance. She may be having a yeast flare. The UTI I passed onto my girlfriend is the thing that makes me scratch my head.

Her UTI symptoms were frequency and urgency with mild lower back pain.
A 5 day course of antibiotics from the GP cleared up her symptoms.
As far as muscle spasm/trauma causing the prostatitis, could this develop in one day or would it have to be prolonged spasm?
btw, I had been off the antibiotics for 2 weeks before sleeping with her.

It's easy for me to say, as I've done enough of it in my time with this thing, but I think you're jumping to conclusions. Her UTI symptoms were frequency and urgency with mild lower back pain.
From reading articles in Marie Claire, Elle etc some women frequently get cystitis after sex. I know one woman who takes cranberry capsules after sex as a prophylactic.

Were any bacteria cultured from your girlfriend? If not, it was probably a "honeymoon cystitis" type of infection. http://healthlink.mcw.edu/article/998784819.html
Spasms can develop very quickly. Ever had a spasm in your calf muscle?

Even if he caught chlamydia, he was treated for it and tested negative.
