Following is my history (sorry for the longevity) - what does this group classify this as? Prostatitis? CPPS? Other? I need to know so I can determine which posts I should be reading. Perhaps my pain is not as severe as some others who have posted here (descriptions like "made me want to commit suicide") but I still need to take care of the problem and don't quite know how yet. I haven't been working for the last few months but I would like to get a job now - only I am afraid that the symptoms may prevent me from being effective at a new job.
10 years ago - I noticed semen had become much thicker and with less volume. Urologist diagnosed prostatitis and prescribed bactrim. Bactrim had no effect. No other symptoms were present and I did not follow up further. Problem has remained to this day.
5 years ago - Noticed burning sensation (sometimes) after ejaculation, soreness in perineal area, especially when sitting on a chair. Urologist did digital exam and prostate massage, failed to produce any fluid, diagnosed non specific prostatitis and prescribed antibiotics. Problem cleared up after several weeks.
2 months ago - Noticed burning sensation (sometimes) during ejaculation, slight burning sensation in area of prostate, then later soreness in perineal area and in buttocks, especially when sitting on a chair. Endocrinologist diagnosed bacterial infection of prostate (no digital exam, no cultures) and prescribed norfloxacin antibiotic and norgesic muscle relaxant, both for 8 days. Symptoms decreased slightly during this treatment but subsequently became more severe. Soreness in perineal area extended to rectum and to buttocks directly adjacent to perineum.
Urologist did digital exam and prostate massage, failed to produce any fluid. Did culture tests on [urine - beginning flow], [urine - mid-stream], [urine - following prostate massage] and semen. No bacteria found. Dr. diagnosed non specific prostatitis and prescribed 30 days of antibiotics (Bactrim) as well as muscle relaxant for bladder neck muscle (Harnal).
For about 5 days during the second week of this treatment the symptoms had all but disappeared but last night the burning sensation in the area of my prostate was enough of a distraction to keep me awake much of the night. Today slight to moderate discomfort when I sit on a chair.
I addition, any advice is appreciated.

You have a common-or-garden case of pelvic pain. You should read the entire forum.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

I am not a doctor, and even doctors cannot make diagnoses over the internet. But I will say that your symptoms are consistent with chronic prostatitis aka chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome aka PM (all the same condition).nickjr4 wrote:Following is my history (sorry for the longevity) - what does this group classify this as? You've already tried antibiotics, so now I'd advise you to look into some of the other treatments discussed in this forum.I addition, any advice is appreciated.
This is not medical advice. Please consult your physician.
