There is probably nothing in this, but I thought I'd see what you all thought. Or maybe it's all old-ground, I have no idea.
I was wondering if anyone thought there may be a link between collagen deficiency and CPPS? I have mild MVP, which is often a sign of mild collagen deficiency. The MVP does not effect me in any way whatsoever so I don't think about it. However I'm sure I can remember reading that collagen plays an important role in GAGs. I theorized something similar to JD a while ago and he hypothesized that those with MVP (or collagen deficiency) may be susceptible to a leaky epithelium and therefore frequent bacterial colonization (not infection).
If collagen deficiency was the culprit then Vitamin C, Glucosamine and Chondroitin would surely have to be helpful. And as it turns out I've seen my biggest improvements since I've been taking Ester-C and ProstaProtek (Glucosamine and Chondroitin).
Any thoughts?

The epithelium can be made leaky by mast cell products.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

hmm. For ~3 months before first manifesting chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome I had a *recurrant* problem with the corners of my mouth splitting, and I continually had to use a lot of petroleum jelly to encourage them to heal. And what puzzled me was, this started in August when it is very hot and humid here. It made me think of collagen deficiency (rightly or not, I dont know) but I dismissed that idea cause I knew I wasn't ascorbate-deficient; now I see (using google) evidence that there are lots of other causes of collagen deficiency, but I can't find any sort of a rundown on what they might be. anyways, interesting idea; just wanted to add that data point. But then again I am (or was) one stressed-out bicycle-commuting overwanking omega-3-lacking SOB, so theres plenty of other things that correalate with my CPPS.

CPPS is usually more than just one correlative.
