Yeah man, you need to back off on the whole sex thing. I think this is the main contributor that results in this condition for most men. Too much of a good thing can be bad. You will find internal massage to have very noticeable results. I had to work muscles much further in with a tool/wand to see real results. It's going to take some time for you to correct this issue but be good to yourself and start developing a better relationship with your pelvic floor. ;)
Age: 33 | Onset Age: 28
Flare | Symptoms: burning after urination/defecation, post-urinary dribbling, low libido, low arousal, pelvic aches and pains.
Helped By: Physical therapy of the levator ani muscle group, Relaxation, Diet
Worsened By: Eating refined sugar and gluten, coffee, beer, stress

Once I've gone a little bit further with my recovery I'll list what I thinks been working for me. Mainly a combination of diet, exercise, stretches, relaxation and supplements.
BTW. You will not actually start recovering until you start manually manipulating and working the muscles with massage. Relaxation alone and all the hot baths in the world are not going to release the sort of tightness you have created. those muscles have become as tight as ligaments internally. That's going to take at least 1 year of religious massage to get that sort of tightness worked out... if not more. ;)

Thanks for your input here but I think that everyone with chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome is a little different and recover differently. Some get better with little effort and some do not and need "a year or more of religious massage". I have gotten my symptoms down to just a dull achy annoying feeling and that's it, even the flares after ejaculation have reduced down to almost nothing (as long as I make sure to relax when ejaculating and no more than a few times a week).

I'm going to give it a another month or 2 before going to a PT and starting internal massage (i'm only 4 months into this whole thing now)
Age: 29 Onset Age: 29 (6-5-11)
Symptoms: Ache/sore in the perineum, inflamed/golf ball in perineum. Painful erections. Pain after ejaculation and during sex. Slight increase in urination but nothing severe (this use to be much worse and has gotten better).
Helped By: Hot baths, Sleep/laying down, exercise, relaxing, klonopin/valium/Ativan, having fun
Worsened By: sex/ejaculation/arousal/porn, sitting, stress/anxiety, rubbing/touching prostate
My story This whole thing started immediately following an extensive porn/masturbation weekend event, basically 5 4hour long masturbation sessions over a 3 day weekend, constantly holding off my orgasm by tensing PC muscle. I've also been masturbating and having sex like a porn star for the past 8 years now, constantly holding off the ejaculation by tensing PC muscle....so bad!! My CPPS has gotten slightly better after stopping porn/masturbating amongst other things and I'm now left with the main symptom listed above. I'm also a recovering porn addict.

So I've noticed now that my symptoms go completely away when I'm walking and when sleeping/first wake up ....but If I'm laying on my couch or standing my symptoms return.

Is it because when walking and sleeping the pelvis is forced to relax....if so does that mean that when my pelvic muscles aren't forced to relax (when I'm not walking/sleeping) that I'm sub-consciously tensing them? Or do I get immediate relief from walking because of some other reason?

Any thoughts on this would be a big help. Thanks!

Question:

Why do all my symptoms go away when I'm walking or sleeping but when I'm standing, sitting or even laying on my couch my symptoms come back?

You can't clench the pelvic floor when walking or sleeping.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

I just signed up for the Wise Clinic for Nov 10-14. I spoke with Dr. Wise on the phone too. This was the second time we spoke and he is more compassionate and dedicated to his work than any doctor I have ever met. He is also very confident in his approach, you just get the vibe that he has devoted his life to this condition, he's tried everything and seen it all over and over again, Its very reassuring.

Anyway, I'm really excited for the clinic. My main goal is to have my pelvic floor evaluated by the best and to learn how to do TP therapy on my own, external and internal.

I would have never signed up for the clinic if it wasn't for all the information and help from this site. Webslave if you want my contact info via PM for a referral please let me know. Thanks for you guidance thus far too.

Quick update on my progress. I'm still improving. I just went through the best week of my life followed by the worst week of my life and now this week have hit a HUGE milestone. I am almost 5 months into this but didn't really start taking recovery seriously until 3 months ago.

I have eliminated everything that was causing me flares and symptoms ie. porn, over sex and masturbation, lifting weights, ab workout, catastrophic thinking, depression and stress. I was still having some ups and downs with my flares and now think I have finally figured out the final piece to my puzzle.

So after eliminating everything else that was causing flares I have been able to be completely symptom free when I am walking and sleeping...and also when I was out with friends totally having a blast. I attribute this to being able to unconsciously relax my pelvic floor and unclench or drop my pelvic muscles during these times. I have also been able to reduce my pain by CONSCIOUSLY unclenching my pelvic floor during times when I'm not walking or sleeping. For the past 2 weeks I've been consciously unclenching and dropping my pelvic floor throughout the entire day. I probably do it like 10 times an hour. I feel like I'm making more progress and feel 100 times better than I ever have and am symptom free about 80% of the time.

Sitting is still difficult to completely relax my pelvic floor so I make sure to take TONS of breaks and also just bought one of these, http://www.laptop-laidback.com/, which is AWESOME btw.

I also just bought one of these to remind me to unclench my pelvic floor throughout the day. https://vibralite.com/products-page/vib ... bralite-8/

This could be working for me because I wasn't someone that developed this through years of tightening my pelvic floor and just injured my pelvic floor through a HUGE masturbation weekend bender...... and it couldn't heal cause I was constantly tensing it up. Just a thought.

I'm also still doing a lot of other stuff that is helping but this has been my biggest discovery so far.

QUESTION This has been on my mind A LOT lately so any feedback from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

I feel like I've been getting better and am on the right track. When I eliminate the causes of my flares and keep my pelvic floor relaxed I can feel about 90% better.

I am concerned with starting internal and external TP therapy cause the few times I have done it, I have flared up a lot the days after. And I'm thinking that maybe I would be better just sticking to my protocol of eliminating flares and relaxing my pelvic floor. I am torn because on one hand if TP therapy will help me get better faster than I want to start it now but I don't want it to make me worse if I can get over this without it.

I've only had this for 5 months now, so I'm not the normal chronic case.

Thanks!

In my opinion, you could keep doing what you're doing. If you hit stubborn resistance to improvement at some point, then consider more extensive treatment.

Thanks for the advice webslave. I really appreciate your opinion on this. Its been driving me crazy trying to decide if I want to start TP therapy.

I just don't want to back peddle in my recover by aggravating trigger points if they are starting to relax without doing PT, but in the same token if it would be best to start working on trigger points now then I would want to jump on it. If I was 2 years in and still with pain it would be any easy decision to start TP therapy.

I want to be as proactive as possible if its going to help but I also don't want to make it worse because I do feel like I'm slowly getting better and its only been 3-4 months of truly committing to working on this and changing my lifestyle.

Any more thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

At your early stage, stretches + breathing exercises + paradoxical relaxation could be sufficient.

Quick update on my condition. I have stopped coming on here to help me forget and not worry about this condition.

I've felt better than I ever have over the past month and half. I still feel pain/discomfort but its very minimal and usually only when I'm sitting for long periods or it can just hit me for a few minutes/hours and goes away. I've been having fasciculations and spasms in my perineum every single day; it feels like everything is releasing, not sure if that is what is really happening but I usually feel relief after some of the spasms/fasciculations. My libido has came back with vengeance, I have been having sex multiple times a week for the past 3 weeks with no issues. Its weird cause I actually feel like the sex makes my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome feel even better, like I'm draining my prostate or something. I've even had sex twice back to back with just 30 min break a few times. I'm trying hard not to use the improvements with chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome to bring me happiness, I want to bring the happiness from within, I'm not letting my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome pain or relief dictate my happiness. I am happy either way. This has taking me a lot of hard work to come to that head space.

A few of the key things that I've been continually doing:
  • Working on my happiness every single day. Reading self help books, journalling, meditating, positive thinking, socializing, etc
  • I feel like I'm living a very calm relaxed life too, huge reduction in stress and tension.
  • I'm going out with friends again and having fun.
  • Fully accepting any pain/discomfort.
  • Not worrying or thinking about CPPS, my only thought is few times a day I will check to make sure I'm not tensing my pelvic floor but I won't put any judgements or labels on it ie paradoxical relaxation.
  • No porn. This has been one of the biggest things for me.
  • Taking amino acid supplement multiple times a day (I feel like this is really helping, could be coincidence)
  • cardio exercise 34 times a week plus daily walking
I fully understand the anxiety/pain cycle. It starts with pain (possibly from anxiety), which causes anxiety, which cause tension, causing more pain, causing more anxiety.....and the cycle goes round and round. The only way to stop it is to fully accept the pain.

There's a BUNCH of other stuff I've been doing, these are just a few that come to mind. I take all the key supplements, Quercetin, fish oil, multi vitamin, etc too.

Tweezer, I just read your post, it's really inspiring! It sounds like you have a good handle on staying as stress-free as possible.

I'm wondering what books seem to have helped you the most, or what kinds of daily things are you reading.
Also, what is this amino acid supplement you are taking?

Cheers.
Age: 43 (UPDATES 1/2015) | Onset Age: 39 | Symptoms: pain when bladder fills (MUCH BETTER NOW), some pain in urethra (ALMOST NO PAIN NOW), low libido (90% back to normal), some pain in upper pelvic area (80% not there anymore), not able to void completely (This is still a problem but slightly better now), dribbling (still a problem but slightly better), pain after ejaculation (sometimes 24 hrs or so) (ALMOST NO PAIN NOW EVER AFTER EJACULATING!) | Helped By: Relaxation, breathing, mindfulness, reading "Get Out Of Your Head And Into Your Life", light but consistent exercise, taking the herb kratom (once a day max), not sitting for long periods, not focusing too much on the problems. | Worsened By: stress, masturbation (sometimes), sex (only occassionally), not sleeping enough, drinking lots of caffeine. No longer taking Terozosin (3 months with only minor relief), Elavil 10mg (3 weeks with minor relief, but side effects of brain fog too much). Now taking: 6000mg vitamin D (over a year), 3000 mg fish oils (over a year) 3mg/1 teaspoon kratom several days a week with breaks

Another update: Still doing just as good. I did have a recent flare, this was from sitting in front of my computer researching a juicer and a new LCD monitor to buy for like 4 hours for 2 days. I've figured out that now the only time I really feel discomfort is during "stressful sitting"...this is either doing office work for my job, researching things to buy on the internet, stressful driving, etc.

Kevkos:

Hands down the book that has helped me the most is "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle. I have also downloaded a bunch of his seminars, which are awesome.

Another book his "The Ultramind Solution" by Mark Hyman.

I've been taking "Superior 2222 Amino Tabs" by Optimum Nutrition. Its basically just a really good Amino Acid supplement. They're a staple for muscle recovery in weight lifting.

Let me know if you need anything else.
