Re: All I need is some help please !
Hi Darren, I've been there twice. She is very good as you told me, but it helped only for the moment, I will continue to go there for few more sessions. Also I've asked my GP for amitriptyline (Elavil). I am on amitriptyline for 10 days, I had a big pain improvement for a week, but suddenly start to feel worse for my last two days. I use to pee every hour before, but now I go every 2 hours but burning pain came back again !. It looks like kind off retention, I am not sure. I am thinking to get out of it. I am on 10 mg at the moment, I am scared about urinary retention and addiction.....

Hi Adyxon,
Yes she is good, but like you, I find that it only lasts for about a week at most.
10mg is very small dose. I had to increase to 25mg as I found that the improvement didn't last long enough. I think what's happening to you is that your body is getting used to the Elavil, that's why it doesn't feel like it's having the same effect. I would actually increase the dosage before I would get out of it. Elavil is tried and tested and isn't dangerous or damaging to your body.
When the nerves are irritated in the urethra and you pass urine, it can feel like you haven't fully emptied your bladder, this is just the nerve pain. Lots of people on this site felt they had urinary retention and underwent a urodynamics test to find they were fine and that the bladder was emptying enough. I too, feel as if I don't empty my bladder enough so I completely relax when passing urine and try to 'drop' everything. I know that I am emptying it all, it's just irritation from urine.
Darren.

If I may interject ...
It's wonderful that you two have found a physical therapist who can address your pain. However, it's obviously not good that everything returns after a week's time. The problem may be that you are not being guided in terms of home care.
Has she given you any stretches to do between your sessions? Has she done internal work yet? Was there any mention of teaching you to do your own trigger point work? These seem to be important factors in helping those periods of improvement to expand.

I am not a physician. This is not medical advice. Consult your doctor!

Re: All I need is some help please !
DMcU, I just had a look in the amitriptyline prescription. I found this :
I had the same problem few months ago with Lexapro and Effexor....I don't think antidepressants work for me...
The biggest problem is that I can't drive my taxi at all, and nobody believes me, wherever I go, every body Is telling me I am looking fine
-
I just decided to get out of Elavil...Because the presence of other medical problems may affect the use of amitriptyline, make sure to tell your doctor if you have any of the following:
- Urinary problems such as being unable to pass urine
-Prostate problems , especially enlargement of the prostate
-Disease of the hearth or blood vessels.

Taxi driving is one of the jobs that can lead to tense sitting. A career change could cure the condition.

Oh Webslave thats such a big call for someone.
My herniated disc probably wouldn't have happened if I didn't sit all day for a living but I love my job it has helped free my mind from CPP. Its such a dilemma. Maybe just a holiday with lots of myofascial work..once its settled you can sit all you like like David Wise at the course.

CPP since 2005. Prior to CPP always overly fit and active. I am female. Had two natural births: singleton 1998 and twins 2000. 2002 emergency back surgery - L5S1 herniation. Then recurring UTIs. Usual antibiotic overload. Then constant debilitating burning bladder and reaction to many foods. Australian Pain Clinic 2007. Turning point was Dec 2009 Attended Wise Clinic in Santa Rosa USA.
Was helped by strict diet but now eating normally after years of restricted diet - wonderful. Helped by: stretching, relaxation, yoga, trigger point, warm baths. Worsened by: stress, sitting, abdominal or glute exercises and salicylates
Medication: Now off all pain clinic meds no more Endone or Elavil only Lyrica 50 mg as Dec 2010 just reherniated L5S1disc and had discectomy. Its taken years but I feel I am over it.

Re: All I need is some help please !
Look, I gave up a very well paid job as an IT consultant because of this. There was just no way I could sit, doing the work of 4 people, fielding high pressure phone calls all day, and concentrating on critical computer program code at the same time, and keep my pelvis relaxed. It was killing me. Now I do acknowledge that the other option is to learn to sit calmly rather than change career. I couldn't do it. Driving a taxi can be stressful with lots of pressures from various directions. If he can learn, perhaps by mastering Paradoxical Relaxation, to handle the job without clenching, that would be great. But that part of this, learning to live unclenched, is the hardest part.

Re: All I need is some help please !
This all started for me after I was qualified as a translator and had to sit all day everyday translating documents at a desk. Yesterday I had a bad day in general and I could feel the tension building up and running down my hip-flexors so after work I got outside and did a few things that needed doing. It made me forget about everything. When I'm at home working on the farm I seem 80-90% better nearly straight away! Taxi driving is one job I would not like, having this condition, that is. There's a bad economic recession in Ireland at the moment and it's very difficult to find a job and people are blessed with any work they have. But if I was to continue being a taxi driver I would integrate some things into my day and sacrifice losing some fares. I would:
- get out and stretch as much as possible,
- have a microwaveable heat pack sitting in my perineum (as I do going to work and it really loosens up those muscles)
- I would do breathing and relaxation exercises (I'm sure Maeve told you about these) at every set of traffic lights and as much as possible
It's understandable that you have a wife and young child to support but try to kill two birds with the one stone and treat this actively even in the car. I had a policeman look at my road tax and insurance and ask me for my licence the other day. I forgot I had a heat pack protruding from my crotch !! He just looked with awe and I said 'ah just from an injury'! He said 'On your way''!!
