Sex triggers "urine infections" & scrotum sore

Post by Nick »

Hi, I am 38 years old and I live in Thailand. I think I have had a chronic urinary condition over at least 2 or 3 years. I have spent all day researching the cause on the net and I have ended up at this extremely helpful forum :) Now I am wondering if I have prostatitis, and if so, what type. Here are my symptoms and story...

My sexual activity, either with a partner or masturbation, tends to go through vigorous "spurts" (for want of a better term) for on average a couple of days every 2 to 4 weeks or so. This can result in some normal swelling of the penis just from the friction etc.. However a couple of days after many of these spurts (say every 2 or 3 months) I experience a "urine infection", by which I mean the urine is darker and smellier than normal and occasionally I get a little burning during urination (but not usually in recent times). It does seem that sex seems to trigger the flare-ups each time.

At the same time or soon after the urine "infection" I experience a pain in the skin on the rear underside of the penis and on part of the scrotum (not always the same part). A couple of days after this a pink rash appears on the scrotum. The rash is sore, with open wet patches and usually about a square inch in size. A few days later everything clears up, and the rash scabs over and heals. I don't feel any fever, loss of energy or anything like that.

I have been getting this condition for around 2 - 3 years. I have had quite a lot of different partners over the last few years and I stupidly had sex without a condom a couple of times around 3 years ago. On a couple of occasions in the early days of my condition I would get pain on the upper inner thighs at the same time as the scrotum pain. Now it seems to me each time that the problem is less painful and over quicker than it used to be, as if my body is getting better at dealing with it.

3 years ago I went for genital warts treatment and I was given a full check and cleared for chlamydia and gonnorhea, but I've had a lot of partners since that.

About 18 months ago I saw a physician here in Thailand about my problem and he basically told me to take better care of my skin. Not very helpful! So I went to another hospital and they tested my urine and said I had a urine infection but they didn't know what type and they generally were not at all helpful. So I'm not too keen on going back to a Thai doctor about this and unfortunately I will not be in a western country to see a urologist for a year.

After my doctor experience, about 1 year ago I took matters into my own hands and treated myself for chlamydia (I think I used the recommended doses of Azithromycin) after reading on the net that scrotal problems can be associated with the condition. It did not help.

One other thing... Over a similar period of time (recent years) I have suffered erectile dysfunction and a distinct drop in libido. I don't know if this is related to my condition or just due to ageing, but it seems to have happened somewhat earlier and to more of a degree than the norm.

It may also be worth pointing out some family history. My sister has had a couple of auto-immune conditions including total hair-loss. My mother has recently developed reumatoid arthritis at 68. And both my father and his father suffered terrible clinical depression in their 50's.

Do you think I have chronic prostatitis? If so, does it sound like a bacterial problem or not? Should I try a course of antibiotics?

Any information or advice anyone can give me would be hugely appreciated. Thanks.

If your genital skin actually breaks down then "scabs" over, something a little unusual is happening.

I believe you have a Herpes infection:
Many people who've been infected with HSV never know they have the disease because they have no symptoms. Or their symptoms are so mild they go unnoticed.

When present, signs and symptoms of genital herpes may include:

* Pain or itching in the skin around your genital area
* Pain in your buttocks or leg
* Small, red bumps, blisters (vesicles) or open sores (ulcers)

The initial symptom of genital herpes is pain or itching, beginning two to 10 days after exposure to the virus. After several days, small, red bumps may appear. They then rupture, becoming ulcers that ooze or bleed. After three to four days, scabs form and the ulcers heal.

Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

Ah yes, I think you're right. Hmm.. not sure if that's good news or bad, but at least it looks like I have the problem diagnosed.

Thanks very much indeed.

I am sorry that you have been suffering with such a condition without proper diagnosis. However, it is a little upsetting that in a country where sex is so available in a consumer fashion (Thailand) that people are not educated to the signs, symptoms, and behavior modifications that are necessary if one is to contract genital herpes.

Please learn about Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) from your doctor or clinic as you are quite contagious during and before outbreaks.

Good luck
