I get on quite well with black tea (which is just as well living over here as the country runs on it).

Green tea is basically the same thing as black tea (black tea is just femented for longer), and I always drink green tea when I go to Japanese restaurants. Try it. Both are chock full of bioflavanoids.

The other thing to note is that caffeine in tea is not released in the same way as coffee. Not sure if that's a consideration in my tolerance - or just whether I'm used to drinking it.

Age: 39. | Onset Age: 30. Onset Date: January 2002. Symptoms (back then): Supra-pubic pain, back pain, urinary frequency, urgency and difficulty, weak stream, nocturia, (and variously) chronic fatigue, IBS. Current symptoms: more frequent than normal, but pretty much under control. Current amelioration: Xatral 10mg, Mirtazapine 30mg. | Worsened By: Stress, binge drinking, strained bowel movements, bloating, sitting on hard surfaces, jogging, and regularly - THE WINTER!

tea contains near as much caffeine as cola, the reason tea won't make you tap your foot or flutter your fingers is that it also contains the relaxant theanine (sp?).

Does cola contain much caffeine? I certainly don't get the same effect from that as I do from coffee.

I'm sure it does. It's just I don't get anxious if I drink a lot of cola - whereas I'm totally wired on coffee or something like Redbull.

What's the difference?

Cool! Thanks for posting that!

So...regular Coke has about HALF the caffeine of black tea (which has a massive 60 mg). And Coffee can have over twice as much caffeine as tea!

That explains a lot :-D

And referring back to the original question about green tea, it has half the caffeine of black tea. Add in this theanine muscle relaxant stuff and it sounds like a reasonable choice if you want to drink something hot and full of flavanoids, but are wary of caffeine.

I still have no idea about green tea and my CPPS... most of the time when I drink green tea I'm fine, but once and a while immediately after I'll get a huge flare up... hard to tell if it is the green tea or something else... . anyone here have to take green tea completely out of their diet?
Age: 26 - | Onset Age: 23 - | Symptoms: painful urination, painful ejaculation, cold penis, chronic pain through perenial area and penis esp. at tip of penis, penis desensitization, general pelvic discomfort and pain, dribbling, shooting pains up to abs, VERY easy loss of erection - | Worsened By: cold, sexual activity, alcohol, stress/stressful/strenuous activity, heavy lifting, concentrated urine, marajuana, hiking downhill, running - No Effect: stretching, acupuncture, mindfullness, relaxation, meditation, a blockers (alfuzosin, tamsulosin), antibiotics, painkiller, muscle relaxents, valerian root, quercetin (3 months...tried twice), low oxylate diet, herbal tinctures - Currently Trying: Lyrica 450mg/day + Tegretol 600mg/day. Seems to help a little, but the withdrawal + possibilities of worse pain make it scary to go off...

Green tea hurts my bladder
CPP since 2005. Prior to CPP always overly fit and active. I am female. Had two natural births: singleton 1998 and twins 2000. 2002 emergency back surgery - L5S1 herniation. Then recurring UTIs. Usual antibiotic overload. Then constant debilitating burning bladder and reaction to many foods. Australian Pain Clinic 2007. Turning point was Dec 2009 Attended Wise Clinic in Santa Rosa USA.
Was helped by strict diet but now eating normally after years of restricted diet - wonderful. Helped by: stretching, relaxation, yoga, trigger point, warm baths. Worsened by: stress, sitting, abdominal or glute exercises and salicylates
Medication: Now off all pain clinic meds no more Endone or Elavil only Lyrica 50 mg as Dec 2010 just reherniated L5S1disc and had discectomy. Its taken years but I feel I am over it.
