Stress, Caffeine, and CPPS
Hi Everyone,
I've posted several times before on this board. My symptoms have mainly been dull ache at the tip of my penis and redness at the tip, as well as low sperm production.
I had a cysto done about a month ago, and they found nothing internally to suggest anything other than CPPS.
I actually was feeling better. However, recently, my job has gotten much more stressful, and I also started to take fat burners w/ lots of caffeine in them.
I believe I have read on this board that caffeine and and stress greatly contribute to CPPS. Today, I woke up and was in some discomfort as the tip of my penis was red again, and I had the ache, which was a little more than just dull. I think it is b/c of the stress and caffeine.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Thanks!

Stress and caffine hit my symtoms big time.
I've been taking Prelief for the last month (highly recommend it) and have been taking decaf coffee for 9 months. I was at a meeting 3 weeks ago when I had 2 cups of strong coffee - not decaf and I didn't take prelief. Within 2 hours later I had a major flare up - burning, pain, frequency, etc.
That was on a Monday. The Friday before I had a physio session when we did an internal pelvic floor assessment (as usual) and it just so happens that I also had a physio session on the Tuesday (the day after the flare-up). My pelvic floor had changed dramatically - with lots of triggerpoints throughout.
Not nice

Re: Stress, Caffeine, and CPPS
Thomas, caffeine is said to be a major trigger for many & I know stress is for me. Not stress in general, but a specific episode of agitation/anxiety causes an immediate increase in urgency and/or pelvic pain. This episode can be caused by sitting in a doctor's office, for instance - something I do a lot these days...dkell9394 wrote: I believe I have read on this board that caffeine and and stress greatly contribute to CPPS. I'd take Richard's advice about using Prelief with coffee or alcohol. That could ease your discomfort. I'm trying it out myself, I think it does help to some degree.

I don't take any with coffee as I always take decaffinated coffee (apart from the instance above).

Scotsman, have you ever thought of cutting out decaf-coffee all together? There are still irritating igredients in decaff-coffee.

I only have 1-2 cups a day though and I've not noticed it causing any discomfort. I also drink normal (caffinated) tea (around 2-3 large cups a day) which doesn't seem to irritate me either (or enough to notice).
Perhaps it's time to move onto fruit teas and leave the other stuff out completely. I think I'll start trying that approach today.

For a very interesting read on caffeine and it's contribution to a variety of health conditions check out this book: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... I'm/cp58-20
Caffeine can increase stress levels directly, and also indirectly by disturbing sleeping patterns. I'm down to 2 small cups of green and black tea blend per day since reading it. A major issue here is that coffee is such an ordinary and accepted part of everyday life that nobody questions whether the fact that they drink several cups of coffee per day may be having an impact on their health. I once did an exercise consultation for a middle aged woman who was referred by her GP as she was having problems with daytime fatigue. When I asked her about her sleeping habits here answer was 'I dont sleep!!!' Turned out she was drinking 8 mugs of coffee per day, including one in her bed at night. After gradually switching to decaf over the next few weeks her problems dissapeared - but I still managed to sign her up for the gym!

My point here: why not remove decaff or normal coffee for good from your diet and drink water (pref bottle). This will flush and cleanse your body of unwanted chemicals that are found in decaff and normal coffee. It is well documented that they have identified numerous chemicals some of which have carcinogenic properties. Why take one substance (prelief) to combat another (coffee, or decaf)? It makes sense not to drink it at all, drink the water it is much better for you.

alprost,
Interesting notion, caffeine-produced stress. For several months before getting CPP, I would use 2L of coca-cola most days - 2L contains about 190 mg caffeine. Probably because I weigh but 125 lbs and would usually drink the 2L in under 2 hours, it sometimes produced mildish sensations of anxiety. At the time I didn't mind that, since I was using the caffeine to counteract mild feelings of languid depression... well, that seems to have been a poor strategy.
I have used no caffeine since my first weeks of PP as even 30 mg aggrivates my PP extremely.
