Effexor Update

Post by Carlton Higgins »

I called the company which makes Effexor to ask them about Flomax and prostatitis. While they could not confirm that there is a direct conflict between Effexor and Flomax, they did tell me that Effexor causes urinary side-effects, including frequency and abnormal ejaculation. Therefore, it seems logical to avoid this medication if one is suffering from Prostatitis/CPPS/IC.

I'm not sure what other anti-anxiety drugs are out there which do not have urinary side-effects.

Carlton,

Apart from my experience with Flomax/Efexor and what you have learned about the possible side effects from the manufacturer, is the combination working for you?

Richard.

For a short time I had no problems, but for the last few days, I have had some discomfort. Specifically irritation in the urethra/penis area, and some frequency. Also, orgasms are "tempered" by about 75%, meaning that sensitivity is drastically reduced.

I wasn't on Efexor for it's anti-anxiety properties so the alternative I am now trialling won't be of any use.

Would Buspar be a short term alternative? I've just looked it up and I can't see anything about urinary problems.

Buspar does not have any impacts on CP/CPPS or urinary problems as far as I know. Check with your doctor.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

Has anyone heard of a supplement called Zen for anxiety?

It contains GABA and an amino acid called theanine (found in green tea).

Apparently it only takes 30 mins to kick in.

Baclofen (which I am taking for CPPS) is a GABA analogue but I don't think I have had much of a levelling effect from it. However, Valiam et al are said to work by attaching to GABA receptors.

Any feedback would be appreciated.
