To all the CP Vets,
I do not have: urinary frequency and urgency problems, burning or pain while urinating, painful ejaculation, weak stream, incomplete emptying of bladder; nor do I get up more than once a night to urinate. A recent CT scan has shown a normal sized prostate and a prostate ultrasound has shown no tumors, cysts etc. I have a low PSA, and a rectal exam has shown nothing revealing.
My only symtom is pain in the perineal/rectal area, exacerbated by sitting and physical activity and relieved by standing, laying down or sitting on a toilet seat. In the morning the pain is almost completely absent until I sit down or get active.
My urologist suggested Chronic Prostatitis as a possibility, but did not recommend any further testing (perhaps because of the absence of so many classical CP symptoms).
Additionally, I've read some articles and abstracts by some pretty reputable doctors who seem to think many urologists use CP as a kind of "catch-all" or "wastebasket" diagnosis for stuff they really can't figure out.
I'd like some honest answers, so I don't head down a dead end.
What do the vets here think? With my symptoms should I pursue further testing and treatment for chronic prostititis?
Mike

Well, you clearly don't have chronic pelvic pain. It sounds like PNE, and I'm sure you've come from another forum here to test us out on that score.
Do we pass your test?

Mark,
Honestly, this is not a test of any kind. I asked a similar question on the other site to see if I would get recommendations for further testing for CP. I'm a person in pain, looking for some guidance--plain and simple. I do not want to procede willy nilly toward any kind of surgery without exploring all the diagnostic options. The fact is I do have some low-level pain even when standing now. But my symptoms are pretty much as indicated.
Is there any sense in me pursuing the Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol?
Mike H.

If you can get access to it, I would. Definitely. I'd try everything before submitting to a serious, non-mainstream surgery.

Webslave - what did u mean when you said it's definitely not chronic pelvic pain, but perhaps PNE? Is PNE not a consequence of chronically tensing the pelvic floor? Or did the smiley face mean you were just kidding.

You ruled out so many symptoms that I thought you had come to "test" if we can recognize PNE. If you describe your pain more completely, I can say more. Compare yourself to this:

I did not write the post to which you are replying. But I am the guy whose question you mistook for a test.
I checked out the link you provided. Thanks. My principle symptom, as I said, is pain in the perineum and rectum, exacerbated by sitting. Sometimes in the morning, sitting on the toilet seat, totally relaxed, I almost feel as if I'm cured (muscles???) Then, when I must sit on my drive to work, the pain returns and I stand all day at work.
I have, in fact, like many PNE sufferrers, modified my workplace, my home, my complete lifestyle so I am either standing or laying all the time. In general, does the pain associated with CP almost completely disappear with a nights sleep?
Given the absence of so many CP symptoms, does it make any sense to get all the culture testing, etc. done? My urologist did not seem to pursue this.
Thanks.

Could be, so get it checked out. It's cheaper (much) to fly to Stanford or an equivalent center than have PNE surgery.harring wrote:Sometimes in the morning, sitting on the toilet seat, totally relaxed, I almost feel as if I'm cured (muscles???)
Yes, sleeping CAN remove most chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome symptoms, thanks to the total relaxation. Symptoms tend to increase as the day wears on.

Thanks for the reply. I live in So Cal, so the Stanford option is definitely a viable one for me. Based upon what I've given you, then, you feel that trying the Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol would likely be more fruitful for me than pursuing any more urological testing or an antibiotic regime for chronic prostatitas?
Thanks
Mike
Thanks

I'll add my voice to webslaves - you really should give the Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol a try (I've not heard of anyone its not helped).

Mike, your symptoms are very much like mine. My main area of pain is in the perinuem area and a mild burning sensation at the tip of my tail bone. I also experience a cold feeling at the tip of the penis occassionally, but it seems to be more associated with when I sit for a long time. In the mornings when I wake up I am symptom free and my pains gradully return during the day I originally started with a frequent urniation, fever and chills, which eventually subsided. My problems started in December 2003 and I've since seen two different urologist and regualr visists with my family doctor. I too have had all the test ran on me, CT scan, IVP, etc... and everything has been negative. I also went through a long regiment of Antibiotics for 2 months with no affect on my condition. My urologist assures me that there is nothing wrong with my prostate either and leaning more towards chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome and muscles tension in the pelvic area. I have now been on daily dosage of any accredited quercetin product for the past two weeks. I feel a bit better, but I am not sure if its due to Quercetin or I am just going through the course... I am watching my diet as well. I picked up a bottle of Prelief and I take a tablet or two with my food, to help nutralize the acidity in the food and its been helpful.
I've been going to Chriopracter a couple of times a week and I start Physiotherapy starting tomorrow. I'll put some feed back on this forum soon, and I hope a quick recovery for all of us..
