I see nobody is posting messages here, and I'm not sure why. For me, diet is the #1 way I control my condition. I treat flares with any accredited quercetin product and/or Algonot, and use Prelief when I eat something very acid. I know this sounds like a sales pitch, but it's actually true!
In my opinion, the role of mast cells and allergy should not be overlooked in this condition, but usually is. Quercetin protects mast cells, by the way.

Well I agree, diet is probably the most important factor. I have had chronic proststitis for 3 years. I am 43 years old. I have cut out caffiene, most alcohol (occasional red wine but only one glass), and Prelief surely does help. My question has to do with Quercetin. This is offered as many different products. I've also noticed it is frequently commbined with Vit C. Is there any concern about taking vit C since it is acidic? Are some forms of Quercetin better than others? I did take it for a while, but did not notice any real benifit, but I see it keeps coming up in discussions. What would be the appropriate dosage? I did notice that my semen turned a yellowish color while I was taking it. I thought it could have been from inflammatory cells in my semen, but it went away when I stopped the Quercetin. It came back when I went back on it. Perhaps I was taking too much, although I don't remember the dosage. Am I the only one that has notice this?

Vitamin C does affect some people negatively, but neither any accredited quercetin product nor Algonot contain it. I recommend a separate buffered Vit C supplement. In my opinion it is extremely unlikely the yellow color of semen after taking quercetin is a reflection of the quercetin's color. It is most likely released inflammatory cells (pus cells). Other people have noticed it too, yes. Perhaps you should have taken it for longer. With Algonot, for instance, they recommend taking it for several months to get maximum benefit. And yes, some forms of querctin are better than others. I recommend any accredited quercetin product and Algonot.

If Algonot (glucosamine and chondroitin) with Quercetin (anti-inflammatory and mast cell stabilizer) work for prostatitis and interstitial cystitis, are these diseases really different? Could prostatitis be IC of the prostatic urethra? Also, there is a role for antihistamines (Vistral etc) in both diorders. Aren't these two conditions related or perhaps even one in the same? The symptoms seem identical. Lastly, how about the role of Elmiron in prostatitis. I have heard of an on going study using high doses of Elmiron to treat prostatitis. I take 100 mg of Elmiron TID and have had great results. Since this post is in the dietary section, both diseases respond to the same dietary restrictions. So what gives here?

Yes, it could.Ralph wrote:Could prostatitis be IC of the prostatic urethra?
It's still controversial, but many researchers are now thinking along these lines.Ralph wrote:Also, there is a role for antihistamines (Vistaril etc) in both diorders. Aren't these two conditions related or perhaps even one in the same? The symptoms seem identical.
Elmiron is effective at lower doses too, btw. There are two supporting studies:Ralph wrote:Lastly, how about the role of Elmiron in prostatitis.
