Hi, although I am not happy to have chronic prostatitis/CPPS I am pleased to have this forum to exchange ideas.
My story started in 1994 at age 35, with a bad case of acute chronic epididymitis that became bilateral and chronic due to ineffective antibiotics. This led, after lots of antibiotic 'therapy' and NSAIDS 'therapy' to persistent scrotum/testicular and pelvic pain, lack of sex drive/libido, chronic inflammation, prostatitis and now, chronic prostatitis/CPPS beginning about a year ago. I am married (somewhat recently) and have been battling tremendous anxiety over my inability to satisfy my wife's NORMAL sex drive, since my former sexual 'self' has been diminished to a prematurly ejaculating, half erect middle-aged sex-washed up, OLD man.
Summer of 2002, I contracted a moderate case of acute prostatitis. 4 week Cipro treatment followed with a little case of CPPS. Now 18 mos. later, I have the whole thing, plus a real nice case of acid reflux disease from taking NSAIDs and other treatment candies. I just finished a 9-week course of Bactrim for CP, which did nothing. Prior to being placed on the long-term antibiotic 'therapy,' I told my uro. (one of many, many, many traditional doctors I have seen in 9 years) that warm/hot sitz baths and pain relievers/anti-inflammatory drugs seem to help me the most. "That's ok," is the response I got back. My number one symptom is pain, and I can't get a script for that - insurance won't cover Vioxx or something that won't destroy my stomach - for crying out loud!
I hate to dis these guys (the trad. med. community), but frankly, 'they don't HAVE it, and they DON'T get it.' I am self-administering a program that I hope with work since I have read nearly every book, article and forum topic on the subject, at significant expense of time and money, I might add.
Currently, I am taking: cernitin 126 mg x 2/day; quercetin 1g/day; zinc; glucosamine/chondrotin; ibuprofen 1200-2000 mg/day for two weeks; hot sitz baths morning and night; power walks for 30-40 min/day; and I'm trying to eat right (reduced fat and sugars). If I have any success overcoming this insane affliction, I will provide an update as I/we progress on this miserable journey.
Good luck to you all, and suggestions that involve past successes are more than welcome.[/u]

Your mention of "tremendous anxiety" is interesting, and typical of men with this affliction. Keep off the antibiotics and good luck.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

No, I have not. I have been doing yoga stretches lately that, combined with 1/2 to 1-hour brisk walks and hot baths seem to be helping.scotsman wrote:Have you tried any physiotherepy in the past?
Also, I just recieved a copy of the book outlining Stanford protocal. If you have any techniques that are specific, I would be very interested in hearing more. Thanks. Brady

Where are you based? Certainly worth trying to find a PT who does Myofascial/triggerpoint work.

You mention taking Cernilton AND Quercetin. I have seen the dose of Cernilton as 6 tablets per day. Is there some reason you are using less when combining with Quercetin?

Quercetin and Cernilton
I think the risk would be if Cernilton, like so many phytotherapies, results in an anti-clotting effect. It might be additive with anything else taken, including chondroitin. So far, I haven't seen much on the effect of bee pollen and clotting, but I"m not sure. The other risk would seem to be excessive anti-oxidant effects (perhaps leading to the opposite). I also haven't seen much on how strong bee pollen is in the antioxidant arena.
I am currently taking any accredited quercetin product 3 times per day, Certilton 2 tabs bid, and Chondroitin/Glucosamine (triple strength) bid, along with my usual vitamins wth extra C and E. I haven't started bleeding yet. The response from adding any accredited quercetin product (for about 3 weeks) has been very good, so I don't know whether the Cernilton and Chondroitin are adding to the benefit at this point. I plan to peel things away one at a time in the future.

I've had success combining Quercetin and cernilton, taking six tablets a day of the flower pollen. I've been doing this for about six months and it has definitely helped, along with acupuncture and yoga. With meditation, being more at ease with inevitable stress, and making the meaninful connections between my own psychological proclivities and this condition, this approach has put me in a situation where the pain is minimal, and the symptoms very manageable.
