Newbie--need answers-Prostatitis?!

Post by Tex »

Hello all--here is my story--I'll make it as bried as I can-
I am wondering if I have prostatitis. I am 31 years of age. About 4 days ago, I noticed some burning while urinating, straining and dull pain in the perineal area as well as the sensation to urinate frequently. There has been no discharge nor blood. I had unprotected anal sex about 3 weeks ago, with my partner of 3 years. Now, the dull pain has moved to the left side of the groin--feels tight as if there is a knot there or something. I started taking Saw Palmetto 3 days ago. I am scheduled to see my MD this Tuesday. I last had a DRE 2 years ago b/c I was having some straining at that time--nothing was found wrong; however, I had been taking benadryl chronically for sleep and when I stopped this, the straining resolved. I last had bloodwork and urinalysis 6 wks ago and it all was normal. I have not had a PSA yet. There is no histroy of Prostate cancer in my family.
I do currently take Xanax for sleep and anxiety-wonder if this could be casuing the issues I am seeing?
I am very pee shy and as long as I can remember have had to "push" more than the average person to urinate (if you know what I mean..)
SO, does this sound like prostatitis?? Thanks for any help--
Tex

Yes it does sound like CPPS. Classic symptoms of trigger points/muscular dysfuntion.

age: 38 symptoms(started in 2002-finished 2005): continual pain in prostate and surrounding area, increase of pain with sexual activity and stress: what helps? Time, natural supplements and change of diet/lifestyle. At present 100% symptom free

This is a risk factor for Urinary Tract Infections in males and also for bacterial prostatitis, so your MD should definately take urine samples to test for infection.

Age:39. Age at onset:31. Symptoms prior to treatment: Golf ball in rectum, severe urinary frequency (2-3x/hr; 5-10x/night); weak stream; painful ejaculation; coccygeal pain; tip of penis pain; general pelvic pain on left; testicular pain; supra-pubic pain. Current | Symptoms: Urinary frequency 1x every 2-3 hrs and 1-2 x a night; mild pelvic pain on left hand side (all symptoms still improving!)
Helped by: Trigger point release; avoiding exercise; pelvic floor relaxation; Neurontin decreased bladder sensitivity somewhat. Worsened by: Exercise; frequent ejaculation; ibuprofen irritates bladder. Made no difference: Diet; biofeedback; quercetin; Steroid anti-inflammatories; Elavil.

****UPDATE*** I am now able to sit again at work all day, and can perform moderate aerobic exersise again for the first time in 8 years!!!

Thanks for the replies. Should I worry about prostate cancer??
Also, can prostatitis symptoms come and go during the day. For example, I always seem to have less problems in the morning--get's worse as the day goes on. I don't have nocturia either.

Probably not, but you should definately discuss the above incident with your MD, no matter how embarrasing.

Yes, that is quite common.

thanks for the responses--I appreciate any input
Now, the dull pain the perineal area has disappered for the most part--now I have this sensation there is a "knot" or golfball just to the left of my penis-I cannot palpate any abnormalities, just feel like there is something there. Also, I have had some straining with bm's today--I did have a bout of constipation with straining approximately one wk prior to all this prostate (i'm assuming...) started happening-- I am seeing my GP tomorrow morning--wish me luck
