Does anyone know if weightlifting is good/bad for pelvic floor problems? I have no back issues - but weightlifting seems to flare up my tense pelvic floor.
Thanks,
Karson

HI,
I also had flare-ups when weighttraining. It's quite frustrating since I love to lift weights and am now precluded from doing so. I think that lifting weights compresses the pelvic floor, which aggrevates the condition. Some people contend that it leads to the degranulation of mast cells that release inflammatory agents, histamines, etc., that cause pain and discomfort. I am wondering if there is anything one can take that will reduce or eliminate these effects before lifting weights?
Can you describe what kind of exercises you were doing with weights and the kind of pain you received as a result? That would help me out in trying to understand what's going on.

Thanks for the reply,
For the most part if I have been doing a little of everything in moderation as far as lifting (except for legs - only very light basic stuff). I can do cardio stuff for long periods of time with little or no flare ups - but the lifting seems to flare me up. For about an hour or 2 after lifting I feel great - then the flare up happens (burning and tightness in rectal/perineal area). Do you do any other form or exercise?

Hi again,
I would strongly recommend yoga. It is an amazing experience in its own right, and I've found the stretching and meditative techniques (especially the yoga poses and stretching) to significantly reduce any symptoms. I actually believe that, though yoga is "slow medicine" this will eventually wind up curing me, along with the acupuncture I am receiving
