TURP for Chronic Bacterial Prostatitis

Post by J Dimitrakov »

A question which has been asked several times in the past. This is the first published evidence of a patient series:

From: Eur Urol 2002 Dec;42(6):I-XI

Interstitial cystitis and prostatitis.

Weidner W, Fall M, Bjerklund Johansen TE.

Department of Urology, Justus-Liebig Universitat, Klinikstrasse 29, 35385, Giessen, Germany

"The Giessen experience has shown some success in the eradication of E.coli, but this was associated with a high level of complications involving acute epididymitis with abscess formation in three patients which necessitated semi-castration. E.coli was eradicated in 11 out of 17 patients at 6 months follow-up and persisted in 6 patients, Enterobacter aerogenes was eradicated in 1 out of 1 patients and Pseudomonas aeruginosa was not eradicated in any of the 2 patients that underwent the procedure."

Here's the abstract of the study:

Eur Urol 2002 Dec;42(6):I-XI

Interstitial cystitis and prostatitis.

Weidner W, Fall M, Bjerklund Johansen TE.

Department of Urology, Justus-Liebig Universitat, Klinikstrasse 29, 35385, Giessen, Germany

Both chronic prostatitis and interstitial cystitis are profoundly painful conditions with a major impact on quality of life. Recent guidelines have been developed for the diagnosis and classification of both diseases. These guidelines are discussed along with potential therapeutic strategies and insights into the aetiology of the diseases.

I suppose it makes sense. If you cannot get rid of an infection in tissue, remove the tissue!
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

I posted the text, Dr. Dimitrakov posted above into our german forum.
We were asked several times, if there is any surgery with benefit for prostatitis and we always warned because of the risks etc.

Yesterday we were surprised by a 40 years old patient who had a surgery end of november in Dresden, because he could not stand the pain anymore. (The original text below).
He had a lot of fear before and speaks of great relief after surgery. He is feeling super and speaks of a second live after surgery. He always was told he is abacterial. The tissue taken away was full of different kind of bacteria (we do not know which).
We do not know what part of the prostate was taken away.

Hallo Leidende,
hier I'm Forum abgeraten. Ich glaube nicht mehr an abakterielle Prostatitis.
Alles Gute.

We need these details for any useful discussion, otherwise we must presume it is a troll on your group.

OK, sure, I was just referring to the study. Besides, remember the primary outcome is symptoms at 6 months and 1 year, not immediately. Anyway, I am always glad when someone feels better... for whatever reason!
