Incidentally, I have been to two therapists in the past who I have asked to show me how to use the wand. But I felt they weren’t successful in demonstrating it very well (possibly a ‘me’ issue but I don’t think so). Some of the videos I’ve watched also are a bit lacking (ok, maybe it could be a ‘me’ issue, lol). I wondered if there is a great video or text info that you could direct me to / link here that I could use?

I use the clock face as a reference, put the wand in, place pressure at each hour, and do the same on the other side. And that’s it. I’m not sure if I’m going too far in, or if there’s more I should be doing. And the reason for that is that I never find what I would recognise as trigger points.

Not long after using the wand. One of my buttocks (left) is tingling and has a vibrating feeling. Is it common for things to be sparked up a bit after use? It’s not painful. It’s just there / happening. I was going easy with it. I suspect it was the 7pm point on the clock that has resulted in the feeling.

When I’ve used the wand in the past it’s given me no issues. But seems recently that this may have changed.

Edit: Possibly a little hardness when sitting now also.

Is this normal and I should just be persevering regardless?

Admin comment: Tingling and vibrating (fasciculations) are a sure sign that you DO have a hypertonic pelvic floor, so that's the good news. No more mysteries as to what's wrong. Yes, persist. 👍

One last question on this wand subject (apologies)…What’s best to do straight after its use?

Bath, walk, lie down in bed? Something else?

I’ve seen a bunch of different suggestions and was keen to check in with you and see what the collective wisdom is on this?

I hate that I feel normal pretty much all day and then I use the wand and it sets things off and my symptoms start up. I’m being gentle. It makes me feel that this can’t be right. Is the thinking that the reaction is the muscles loosening up and therefore the nerves start up, but the next day will be better, and so on?

David Wise also says that the nerves need to be given time to switch off. These two approaches seem incompatible to me, taken at face value if the use of the wand fires them up.

Should it not be that I use the wand at this stage only on days that I am having problems, if most of the time I have little to no symptoms? Does that not mean that the pelvic muscles are already loosening up and therefore should be left alone to heal. But on days where I’m having issues, use the wand then? Apologies, I’m just pretty confused at this point.

Symptoms flaring up after treatment is typical in the first stages of treatment, and actually a good sign. If you have a trigger point or spasming muscle anywhere in your body and you start poking and rubbing it, it will flare with pain, until eventually it subsides. I get them in my shoulders occasionally, and I tend to treat them repeatedly for a few days to get them to relax. If it's practical, treat yourself several times a day for several days, and see what happens.

Warm relaxing bath afterwards sounds good, but what you do afterwards is not critical

Ok good, good….That’s very reassuring thanks

My anus has been quite tight recently I think. I saw someone mention anal dilators when I was online yesterday. Would it be wise to use one to stretch that out a bit?

Admin comment: You can, sure. It's usually not essential, but if you tend to have spasm in the actual anal muscle, it's worthwhile.

So I’ve used the wand the past couple days (once each day). I didn’t find specific trigger points. I just used the clock as a guide, pressed lightly on that area for 30 seconds and moved to the next hour. I’m doing it on my back. Will try lying on my side next time, as others seem to do.

Both days I’ve had a fair bit of discomfort afterwards and continuing all through to the next day. I woke up at 4am here (UK time) feeling pretty uncomfortable and with an ache at the back of my testicles. I actually had to take a 2mg diazepam at 5am. This had the added benefit of helping me get back to sleep. It’s 4pm here now and I’ve not had to take diazepam again so far, fortunately.

I’ve been out Christmas shopping today and that was fine. Some discomfort since being back home but very mild. Very aware of my perineum and anus when sitting though. Tight/hard feeling and some electricity.

I’m back at work tomorrow so I’m going for forgo the wand today, and maybe try again on Saturday. Then in to work Monday and Tuesday, so will forgo those days also. And then I’m off for 12 straight days, and so I can do alternate days with the wand (bit too much for me to try every day). I’d keep going even when at work but I’m worried about a big flare and being unable to go into work.

At the back of my mind there is the fear that I’m going to cause myself some massive flare and be in agony. Hard to shake as I don’t want to take any time off work. It’s a new job and I’m not there long enough to get sick pay yet.

I took an easier job to reduce stress from here on out, and I’m now part time too. Seemed sensible given my having CPPS.

Been using the wand every day for a number of days now. The flaring after use largely died down after a couple of days, and I feel it’s been helping each following day after it’s use.

Will keep going and see how things go with this approach.
