Prostate size - they said it's too big

Post by igiv »

Hi,

CT Scan abdomen and pelvic just shows my prostate size is 5.6 x 4 x 4.7 cm

I'm 47 years old. Probably have prostatitis... How big is it and is there any change back to normal? Or should i use Flomax etc till the end of my life? ((

Thank you

Normal prostate is 4 cm wide, 3 cm high, and 2 cm thick. Yours is quite enlarged, so you have BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia), which at your age of nearly 50 is not that unusual.

This condition can cause lower urinary tract symptoms that are a lot like UCPPS.

Firstly, get an alpha blocker (like Flomax) from your doctor and give it a 3 month trial. Then come back here and report how symptoms have changed.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

As I understand Flomax can't treat, it's just to relax some muscle and help with urination?

Once again, BPH, which you have, can mimic CPPS. You need to treat the BPH before we can tell how much, if any, CPPS you have.

There's no good science supporting that. I would not use diclofenac. You can try the prostatitis tips page for some ideas:

I visited another urologist... He said my prostate size is ok... Most people he said has a bit bigger prostate size after CT Scan... hm... He also said I don't have any BPH or cancer... Also he took prostate fluid for test... result will be on Monday... but it could be fake due to antibiotic I've took this week... I've stopped it due to strong side effect...

There is one more... - I feel myself better after massage... wonder what does it mean...

If massage is helping you, that points to UCPPS. And that you can treat yourself. See the Tips link I gave you above.

I'm still assuming it might be an infection version. At leas all my previous times were treated with antibiotics...

This time i had some pain and it's gone after a started an antibiotic. Unfortunately i've stopped due to side effects ((

Infections are usually painless unless they become severe, and then they are obvious. What does an infection look like?

I'm not sure. It wasn't much pain and urination issues, just my usual symptoms with swelling and rectum pressure... But I've never had any urination problem before, even when I have severe prostatitis... it's was always some issues with pain inside and swelling in rectum area. And it's getting worse without antibiotics. Few days without antibiotics and it's start some chills and discomfort in urethra also... As I said, after massage felt myself much better with all symptoms...

  1. Massages don't have any effect on infections. So you don't have an infection.
  2. Antibiotics can act as anti-inflammatories. This explains why they can make some men feel a little bit better, for a while.

  1. Ok, thank you. I didn't say it's related to an infection. I've just said my symptoms I was worry about, wondering what is it (course they are a bit unusual for prostatitis) get much better after massage... So, I'm sure now I have prostatitis. As I understand you can feel better after massage no matter if you have an infection or not...
  2. That's correct. But do I have a choice? I always treated with antibiotics. As I understand I have to take some for a while to exclude bacteria version... ? Anyway, consider the fact it's getting worse during this two month it could be an infection... otherwise it would stay more stable.
