I have tried to do the stretches specified in A Headache in the Pelvis but I found that immediately after the session the pain was WORSE. I have a constant feeling of irritating 'electricity' in my pelvic muscles, and after doing the exercises this feeling just heightened, culminating, after about twenty minutes, in more pain.
This is contrary to some reports I have read, where the stretches have an immediate effect - with a feeling of relaxation straight away. I certainly don't get that. In fact the very THOUGHT of stretching these muscles is enough to give me more pelvic pain. Shall I persevere with the stretches? Or could it be that A Headache in The Pelvis does not give the full story - that pelvic muscle tension could be due to some other problem, which is itself EXACERBATED by stretching (or indeed exercise)?

Thanks MS.
Yes, I've seen a neurologist (and two pain docs). Unfortunately, they always end up scratching their heads. I am SURE that chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome in my case begins with a nerve problem and that all the muscular stuff just comes along for the ride. I am also sure that in cases such as mine - where there is a determinate nerve problem at the root of chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome - some ingenuity could sort it out. However, there isn't enough of that around.

I have the same electric feeling in my pelvis associated with an aching pain. The pain radiates down my left leg and is centered in the perineum on the left side. It is a very hard feeling to describe but definitely feels nerve related. Interestingly I tried Neurontin which should settle down the nerves but it did nothing for the ache/pain. I went to a neurologist and he scratched his head and said "I only read brain scans", thanks doc. I think it is hard to separate the nerves from the muscles and both are involved. Sometimes I wonder if my pudendal nerve is entrapped but the electric feeling is not as bad as it was last year. Hard to pinpoint.
