I'm not aware of any limits to taking quercetin. The 2/3 weeks on, 1 week off approach was something I discovered through trial and error. Many guys take it for years and years like this without any problems.

There were a few references (I came across) to kidney issues and how the liver might process medications or have an effect on them while taking it. So I was just wondering if taking breaks from time to time would be better. I wanted to get advice from somebody who actually takes it, and I feel good about what you are telling me. I hear liver and kidney and it somewhat gets me nervous. In the past, medications and supplements have had negative impacts on my liver enzymes. So it's always a concern in the back of my head. I've been taking it for over a week now, and it has helped. But I am still dealing with the nagging urgency issues.

Thanks!

Kidneys? Most research points to quercetin assisting kidneys, e.g. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29753749
It can also be of assistance to the liver: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29578092

I think Dr Shoskes was using it for some such kidney-related purpose when he discovered the effect on CPPS.

If you are worried about liver enzymes, have a baseline blood test and repeat in 3 months. I've never heard about quercetin affecting liver enzymes.

I stand corrected on the kidney damage. It appears it would only happen in high dosages and possibly intravenously. So I doubt that's going to happen. I wish I can find where I read about the liver damage just yesterday, but it was vague. But like I said. So what I read: It's not that Quercetin causes damage to the liver, but how it changes how other medications or supplements are metabolized that could lead to liver damage. Personally I am more worried about how NSAIDs damage those 2 organs. Cymbalta has caused the most issues with liver enzymes. To the point where my PC thought somehow I had Hep C, which was never true. So far I am somewhat pleased with Quercetin for the pain issues.

And as always, Thanks for the info....

What is the rule of thumb on taking Quercetin? I understand you shouldn't take it with meals, so how long should you wait to take it before a meal, and how long should you wait to take it after a meal? The answer is probably right under my nose and I still don't see it. Is an hour before or after a meal too soon?

Quercetin suppliers recommends you take quercetin with meals. I've also seen recommendations to take it between meals. I don't think it matters much.

Thanks Webslave! I just want to take it in the way the gives the most added benefit. Knowing this, I will try it with a meal to see if I see a difference. Not to sound like a broken record, but I wish I could find something to help with the burning urge that will linger on and off for hours or days. I will admit that I think the Quercetin has helped with the other pain issues. It's tough to really focus and concentrate on anything else like sleep when it feels like a child is dancing on my bladder though. It's that one thing that's been toughest for me.

The burning is neurological. It will be slow to unwind.

That being said. I am in the early stages of hitting the trigger stages myself outside of PT, which I will be heading back to for awhile late August. What else would you recommend I ask my doctor that I can take to help it to unwind that situation? I know you say there is plenty to learn here, but sometimes it seems mind boggling when my mind is fixated on the pain.

Some of your symptoms could be BPH related, which also fits with your age ... ask your MD about investigating that maybe.

Sorry the very very late answer. What doctor are you thinking of? Have you found someone to help you in Norway?

Hi again, guys.

Have been struggling for a long time now. I'm now 31 years old.

I went to the f-clinic Holland in 2019 which is owned by Dr. Fetske. It was very good and you could see that she had been skilled by Dr. Wise. Will def recommend visiting the clinic if you are living in Europe. I actually got very good after that for nearly a whole year with a programme I followed. I could finally play tennis and have normal sex again with good connection with the pelvic floor including long lasting erections.

Now the situation is again a lot worse, I've had maybe the most stressful 2020 of my life, with covid, complete home office, isolation and on top of that I broke up with my girlfriend.

Now I have been absent from work since march because of pains. I feel hopeless. I live alone and everyday trying to be a little wiser and to let go. Have also been struggling with some anxiety after the breakup which is getting a lot better through help of psychologist.

What I've done:
  • Read Headache in the Pelvis by Dr. Wise.
  • Overcome programme by Michael Hodge. Anyone else been trying this holistic treatment? I would think it would suit many of us.
  • Visited F-clinic Holland
  • Amitryptiline 30 mg every night to relax
  • Neurontin (not good for me)
  • Been to urologists twice the last year
  • MRI of "everything"
  • Done stretches, meditations, etc.
  • Eating clean
  • Quercetin in limited times. Not tried over months. And almost impossible to find certified quercetin to ship to Norway.
  • Numerous physios. I like the one I have now, but she does not find anything wrong with my body.
  • Gastroscopy
  • rheumatism doctor. Nothing is found.
  • No food intolerance from tests
  • Cam deformity (hip impingement) on the right hip, but a physio said that this does have not effected my mobility and he sees this picture all the time.
  • Trying to eat gluten free for most
  • Autogenic training 10 minutes 2-3 times a week
  • Only walking 20-25 minutes a day is the only exercise I do.
  • Can go 3-4 weeks between masturbation and sex when I'm at the worst.
  • Earlier I swam 2-3 times a week at a local pool which also had sauna.
  • From 2015-2017 I was 85 % healed I would say. But after then the symptoms is like described under.
Food supplements:
  • C vitamin (buffered, which works better for stomach)
  • Some times using magnesium
  • D vitamin
My symptoms these days:
  1. Constant perineal pain. Especially when sitting which I find very hard. Also have this stabbing feeling when I walk. Burning sensation in perineum occurs often.
  2. Pain in lower abdomen. When I push in below the navel
  3. Bad bloodflow to my penis
  4. After bowel pain. Maybe my biggest and most important problem, because that starts my day with pain. My testicles is drawing upwards after defecation. I'm using a sitting pot and have very rare constipation or have to push for it to come out.
  5. Bloating and a lot of gas
  6. Diarrhoea if stressed
  7. Pain in the base of the penis, tense "penis muscles". Especially after defecation.
  8. Lower back when sitting straight up. Like the pressure on my buttocks/pelvic leads to a burning/tense feeling in my lower back and knees. Knees and lower back always feels very weak after sitting for a long time, and it can be difficult to hold my body up. Could it be the pressure on the perineum which leads to these diffuse pains. MRI is taken both of the lower back, pelvic and knees and no disc damage or other things they can see on the MRI. Any tips for this Webslave? Can CPPS lead to pain in other parts of the body. For example when sitting for a long time I can feel tensing of the whole spine, from the pelvic, and my neck/shoulders/head tightens also. Very weird. Struggling a lot to find out what that does. The pain in lower back and knees is getting worse if I don't do any strengthening work in the area. Can also add that too much stretching makes my symptoms in lower back and knees worse.
  9. Difficult to make contact with the pelvic floor. Have no problem with loosening it with reverse kegels through bearing down, but often find it difficult to contract it.
  10. Some testicle pain when sitting on hard surface
  11. Huge pain and tightening of the abdomen, psoas and hip flexor when sitting on hard surface. When pushing with my finger under my navel I can experience this sharp pain.
  12. All in all I feel like there is coming a huge pressure when sitting which tightens all my body parts.
If some of you have any tips I'm happy to receive.

Can also add some guided yoga which I try to do regularly. Before sleep to really relax the nervous system. Really helps your body to get in a very relaxing state. This can also help me to have morning erections actually and generally sleep better:

Really a good pelvic opener if you can tolerate some strengthening and flexibility. Dr. Brie has many good things at here channel which can help you.

Guided meditation for pelvic floor if someone is interested
