Who has similar symptoms?

Post by chb81 »

Hi everybody,

I am new to this forum. I read many posts - I think it's hard to find two people with exactly the same symptoms and exactly the same treatment working good for them...For me this shows how complicated this is...

You might agree that it's impossible to try everything that is suggested or works for one or another - please let me explain my history - maybe someone can give me an advice...

I have CPPS (at least it's my understanding that I have it) since 2006; I'm 33 now.

I tried: Physical Therapy, Osteopathy, Acupuncture, Skin Rolling, Internal and external trigger point release...and so much more..

I took: pain killers and also all kinds of antidepressants

I know: It's all in my head! I am 100% pain free for maybe 10 months in a year; but then I always have weeks of really bad pain; the reason the pain comes is only because I fear it comes; I have some "trigger events" for example riding a bike (I am avoiding it for many years now) or sitting uncomfortably and talking myself into the pain or "talking about the pain / the pelvic area" - I am 100% sure that I have no bacterial prostatitis, I have no body dysfunction that is the reason for this pain - it is only in my head! When I am on vacation it could never come; when I have to "function" at work or in private life and I fear that the pain comes again it will come!

I thought psychotherapy could help me but so far it didn't; all the physical therapy does not help me once the pain is there - it can help but I don't have the guarantee that it helps. I am looking for something that I could do / take once the pain comes; the rest 10 months of the year I don't need anything. The problem is once the pain comes I cannot function normally at work and I avoid social contact; I feel so deeply vulnerable!

One main problem is that when I don't have the pain I cannot deal with the CPPS-topic - the fear is too big! That's why I never did regular relaxation work or trigger point release throughout the year, only then when I have the pain...I even often cancel PT appointments because I fear the pain comes back when it's not there.

I think this makes my case a little different to many I have red here about - that I am 100% symptom free for most of the time - but in the 2-3 months (not at once but combined, maybe 5 times 2-3 weeks in the year) it's really bad!

I also don't have any other problems besides the pain in the prostate area; no problems with bladder control or anything, only pain; but this pain is so bad that I don't know how to live with it once it is there...

Thanks in advance and have a nice day. Replies will be much appreciated.

Greetings from Germany,
Christoph

This is an interesting case, and may even be the first time I've seen this exact presentation described.

Although you are asymptomatic for most of the time, you are like a kettle that is just about to boil. Only apply a small amount of heat and the water will boil.

You may be able to avoid CPPS just with a simple strategy like meditation. I would recommend you study meditation, or even have a training course on how to meditate.

Dear Webslave, meditation is one of the things I tried. I agree that this could be a good tool for me - the problem is that when I don't have pain I am very good at doing meditation whereas as soon as I get the symptoms again I cannot stay calm and I am very bad at doing the meditation. I can't avoid that the pain becomes self-increasing again...

Best Regards,
Christoph

You have to do it all the time, to get your basic level of nervous and emotional arousal lower, not only start doing it when symptoms arrive.

I agree! It's just very difficult for me to keep doing meditation once the pain is there. Anyways, I will continue to do it. Anyone has any other ideas for me?

Thanks,
Christoph

@webslave: Thanks for the link! Much medication is mentioned there. Do you think with the symptoms I described it would make sense to take any of these? I dont like to take too much different medication at a time - so maybe just one.

What I take at the moment is Pregabalin (2*75mg in the evening; 2*50 mg in the morning) - was prescribed by a "pain doctor" I went to. So far it doesnt really help.

Thanks,
Christoph

Hi everybody, just wanted to push this discussion up, so maybe other people can join. Who else thinks / knows that his condition is mainly / if not totally due to psychological problems? I tend to think this more and more - but then it would mean that only meditation / psychotherapy would help - and not any medicine or pills...

Hi webslave, thanks for mentioning that. I filled out the signature now.

Do you remember any cases in which (like in my case) there are Long periods of no pain (without taking any medication or doing anything during that time) and then the pain Comes back after certain Trigger Events.

Of course I am grateful the pain is not there permanently - but on the other Hand this leads to me not working so actively on my Problem in times when it's not there...

CPPS "waxes and wanes", that is one of its characteristics (and that's what tells you it's not an infection). For this reason consistency is needed with stretches and mental strategies, but that's quite difficult for many men, who tend to backslide into bad thinking and behaviours, which eventually leads to a new flare-up.
