My Story and recovery

Post by sharkcage »

Brief Medical History of my Chronic prostatitis:

July 1999
Periodic burning sensations (flare ups). Assumed I had a Urinary tract infection and saw an urologist He said nothing was wrong with me.

Dec 1999
Burning sensation became more prevalent. Frequent urination,
especially at night. Soreness in prostate area. Periodic pain in back and side. After urination, the sensation that I still had to urniate more, and post urination dribble.
Thought I maybe it was a STD and went for testing.
Tested negative for all diseases but was given antibiotics(doxycycline) to take anyway.
Symptoms did not decrease.

Jan 2000
Saw my primary care physician. He preformed no tests but based on my symptoms told me I most likely had chlamydia. He prescribed a mega dose of zithromax and Cipro to be taken.
Symptoms did not decrease.

July 2000
Saw a urologist. Had test done on prostatic fluid. Was told there was bacteria present. Was diagnosed with prostatitis. Was given levaquin to take. I took for one month but stopped because of side effects: nausea, insomnia, loss of appetite, general bad feeling.
Symptoms did not decrease.

Sep 2000
Saw different Urulogist. Was given proscar and Cipro to take.
Took the Cipro for one month took Proscar for 1 year.
Symptoms did not decrease.

Feb 2001
Saw Urulogist again. Found white blood cells in urine. Had IVP x-rays and Cystoscopy done, both normal. Was given celebrex to take. I took the celebrex for a few months but stopped due to no effect on symptoms.

From Feb 2001 until present
At this point I knew that the medical community was not going to be able to help me. This is when I became aware of the newsgroups and information on the web regarding prostatitis.
For 1 year 9 months I have been doing the following:
500 mg of Quercetin twice a day, 15 mg of zinc twice a day, as much Rooibos tea as I can remember to drink (usually 1 cup every night before I go to bed).

I have been growing relatively symptom free for the last 1.5 years. That is not to say that I don't occasionally have some discomfort. But to put it in prespective for 2.5 years I was in discomfort probably 60% of the time, and the pain level often reached about 8 on a 1 to 10 scale. For the past 1.5 years I am only in discomfort 10% of the time and the pain level only reaches about a 4 during those brief times.

Also I have been able to resume a normal life which includes tennis, exercising, drinking alcohol occasionally, and enjoying sex with my partner, all of which were very difficult prior to my recovery and would often lead to bad flare-ups.

I realize that sometimes that just the passage of time my lead to recovery fom chronic prostatitis, and that may be the case with me. But I personally believe that the supplements I took played a major role, and even though I am feeling better I still take them and will continue to do so forever. Once you have experienced the pain of chronic prostatitis you will do whatever you can to never return to that state.

Thank you for this history. It's very interesting because it's kind of classic. I receive a lot of email with stories just like this one.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

Jim,

Truer words were never spoken. I'm doing the same thing. I think it's great that you're feeling better. Hopefully, in time, even that 10% will decrease. Good luck to you.

Jim that is great news and I kind of relate to your experince. However I am just starting to learn some new and interesting things. You protocol is something I have also considered. Kind of hope I will experince the same.

I have tried those products but not in the same combo... maybe I will give it a go.
