Success Story with Interstitial Cystitis

For what it's worth, I thought I would share what worked for me on the Interstitial Cystitis front. I don't know if it will work for others, but it has worked for me for over 4 months now. Brief history: I'm a 61 year-old male, had 3 prostate operations (all BPH-related), was doing fine until I came down with IC about 2 years ago. All the classic symptoms -- burning bladder pain, urethral pain, etc. Went to see the experts, no help. It came on while I was in the midst of lumbar back surgeries and was feeling quite down (though I don't know if that info is relevant). Here's the bottom line: Make sure you don't have some kind of infection -- do a few weeks of Cipro or Levaquin, maybe do a few weeks of Augmentin, etc. Check with your Uro on this front. But what finally worked for me was so simple, it still boggles my mind. My wife told me to try a probiotic called Natren's Healthy Trinity. (She had heard ads for it on the radio.) I'm not into alt medicine, but I Googled around, esp. on Amazon, and this got high marks ... so I thought I'd give it a shot. It's expensive at Whole Foods, but you can get it cheaper online -- though watch out! -- it's gotta be properly refrigerated. I also started taking 1000 mg of Turmeric (an anti-inflammatory spice that East Asians use in their food) twice a day. That's it. I don't think the brand matters, but I get mine from some outfit called "Eden Pond" ... also found it on Amazon. Things started to clear up and here I am 4 months later, pain free. (I can even drink cokes again, have some chocolate ... though I'm too afraid to go overboard on that stuff.) I don't know if my situation is unique, but if it's not and the above can be of some help to somebody, well, that would be wonderful. I suffered for 18 months with the dreaded IC and I pray that it's gone forever. Good luck!

Interesting ... I think this is the first report we've had of probiotics + Turmeric effecting an IC recovery. Thanks for posting it!
