Hey Wolfcub,

I am going to a specialist soon to determine what type of inguinal hernia it is. I will know more then. I am going to get it fixed but I'm not hoping that its a magic bullet and it will fix all of my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome symptoms. I am assuming there is a lot going on down there and I'm trying to just let things cool down. What came first the chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome or the hernia - don't know don't care. I know that nerves cross talk/alloydnia/neuronal windup and all that sortof stuff and I've heard injuries can cause the pelvic muscles to clench. Perhaps thats what happened in my case - that and my anxious disposition. I'm trying not to obsess about it too much. Mostly just going to continue stretching, breathing deep, avoiding certain exercises and relaxing. I hope the hernia fix will provide some relief because I still have one side of my abdomen that feels weird during sex.

I'll keep you posted.
Age: 27 | Onset Age: 26| Symptoms: Occasional penis discomfort (mild), primary pain is perineum - feels like I'm sitting on a golf ball, pressure in penis, almost like a stick is in my urethra, difficulty sitting for long periods of time, urinary frequency (some), incontinence (dribbling), right testicle pain (almost gone!), hip pain, stiff hips, lower back pain. Some abdomen pain. Just general discomfort in the area, post sex discomfort. | Helped By: External and Internal PT. Hot bathes. Supplements (mag, omega 3, vitamin b and D, prosta Q). Relaxing. Breathing exercises. Anti inflammatory diet. Stretches. Yoga | Worsened By: Stress. Core exercises, too much exercise, too little exercise, strenuous exercise. Sitting. Too much Sex | Other comments: Feeling better, but still not 100% I'd say I'm 75%

PS everyone - I've discovered heaven in underwear form. Anyone who gets irritated by the seams in underwear give these a try: http://shop.lululemon.com/products/clot ... -underwear

They are a bit pricey but they are so comfortable and they don't have any thick material or seams which can irritate me.

I don't have my copy of AHIP with me... Could some please help me determine what refers pain to the right side of the shaft of the penis? I occasionally get stabbing sensations there, also towards the pubic bone. Is possible the offending point is in the abdomen?

Personally for me I have found that in the abdomen and the right butt cheek.

Couple of questions, hoping some could chime in... I have yet to find a Physician in my new city so I'm left with the internet and my own personal speculations.

I have been off any accredited quercetin product for a few days now, simply because I ran out. I haven't noticed too much of a difference but I've been getting some sharp stabbing pains in the penis every once and a while. Nothing terrible, just an annoyance. I am still dealing with post sex discomfort, buts its nothing I can't handle. I have been exercising more vigorously lately, so I'm going to ease up. In fact, it seems to be producing terrible gas for me lately. I'm not sure if there is any sort of connection to the bowels other than the fact that I might be dehydrating myself because I tend to sweat a lot.

Anyways...a couple of questions.

1) Is there any sort of long term disadvantage to taking Quercetin, ie addiction?
2) Back problems - I tend to get a very sore lower back after walking for about 45 mins, is it possible I have some type of slipped disk or is it due to my flat feet? Could there be any sortof connection to CPPS?
3) Mast Cells - I've read up on mast cells and I was wondering, would something like vigorous exercise and sweating exacerbate the role that mast cells play in CPPS?

Thank you in advance.

  1. No, absolutely not.
  2. Yes, get a MRI if you can, to check spine. Also see viewtopic.php?f=11&t=8015
  3. Yes, exercise can provoke mast cells to degranulate. See Exercise-induced anaphylaxis: A clinical view (if you are able to understand scientific text).

Should I have my right inguinal hernia repaired?

Post by davyboy »

My doctor confirmed a right inguinal hernia - has said its not a massive hernia. Should I have it repaired? There are complication risks like nerve pain, etc. I am concerned about pelvic pain related risks, due to my history of it. But completely uncertain if my pelvic pain is caused by hernia.

Thoughts?

Hey davyboy, sorry I don't have an answer for that question, but I was just curious if you were still getting that buzzing and where? Mine stopped for a two or three weeks but now its back. I emailed Tim and he asked if I could massage it out, but mine is feels like its in the urethra so I'm not sure how to massage that. Do you notice yours after going to the bathroom? Just wondering
Thanks

The buzzing actually has disappeared. It was mostly in the scrotum.

I suspect it had something to do with the muscles loosening up... It kinda coincided with me feeling better.

Hello All,

Just checking in as it has been a while...

I must say that things have been much better on my front. I can say with confidence (knock on wood) that I'm 95% better. I realize that I'm not out of the forest yet and I have accepted that I probably never will be. I realize that chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome is a tendency, not an injury. Certain types of individuals are more inclined to certain dispositions and unfortunately, individuals like myself, are inclined to CPPS.

I have posted many times on here what has helped me and I have been sticking with this routine. Physically, I'm doing very well. I can be sexually active without having to experience ANY discomfort afterwards. I'm very very happy with this.

Moving forward, I would like to focus on my mental state and my nervous system. I still suspect that I have yet to let my nervous system fully recover from my CPPS. I have a lot of bizarre muscle twitches and muscle spasms. I am a hyper vigilant personality and I think that my sympathetic nervous system is constantly engaged. I stress too much and I exercise too hard, not permitting myself adequate time for recovery. I think I might be suffering from neural fatigue. My nervous system is too active and doesn't have time to recover much. Does anyone have any tips (aside from deep breathing, meditation, general relaxation) which can help me engage my parasympathetic nervous system? That is where my focus is going to be for the next little while, as I believe it is the key to controlling chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome and it will also help other aspects of my life. I just want to learn to shut it all off and relax.

Hope all is well with everyone!

Well, the "deep breathing, meditation, general relaxation" that you do not want to hear about are key factors.

I'd say also listen to music by Dr Jeff Thompson (you can get his music at the Amazon link in my signature). Wonderful for changing brainwaves.

Also, get a supply of Xanax (or Valium or other benzo, but I find Alprazolam most effective) in, and as soon as you feel things starting to wind up and you start fretting over issues, take a pill cutter (or just snap one in two) and cut off a piece of a Xanax just before sleep. This, I find (even now), helps to calm the psyche for days at a time. Do not take the benzo continuously, because of (a) addiction and (b) they can cause depression.

Thanks Webslave. The deep breathing, meditation and general relaxation I do already try, I suppose I just have to stick with it. I'm essentially trying to alter my disposition, which I imagine isn't easy to change after being a certain way for 27 years :)

Thanks for the tip. At this point, I'm 100% non-chemical but it would be good to have a safety resource.

To what extent do misalignments within the musculature/skeletal frame affect our condition?

Here is a photo my Physical Therapist took. Note the right leg

Would something like this have a profound effect on my pelvic pain? He says that that I'm quite twisted all over my body like this. My shoulders hang too low, my pelvis is never in a neutral position and many other things...
