For the last 14 months I have been doing internal trigger point release massage with the wand given out at the clinic in Santa Rosa. The stopper on it is set at a length that allows me to reach up to the top left and top right sides of the prostate and no farther. It is these points where pressing exactly replicates my symptoms - an urgency to urinate felt in the tip of the penis. When I first started I could barely touch these points without putting myself in extreme discomfort. Now it takes significant pressure to elicit the same feeling.
So it would seem that progress has been made, but still I have symptoms. I would say that I am perhaps 20% better in that while it is usually still very uncomfortable, I haven't had the earth shattering flares where I feel I must rush to the emergency room.
Now I am reading on this board from people with years of experience that the most important points are 7-10 inches up inside the rectum. If true, that would mean that for the past 14 months I have been ignoring something that must be addressed. It would also mean that there is a huge oversight in the Wise/Anderson protocol in that it advises not to go above the prostate at risk of injuring yourself and offers a wand that is pretty much incapable of going much further than the top of the prostate.
So the issue of how far to go up seems to me to be of extreme importance. Either you do need to go that deep or you don't. Which one is it?
If you do need to go that deep, what tool do you use? And if you do need to go up that far, why is it not mentioned at all in the Wise/Anderson protocol?

Internal Massage - How deep do you go?
Age: 39 | Onset Age: 17 | Symptoms: Constant feeling of needing to urinate felt in the tip of penis. Frequency. Urgency. None of the typical pain associated with CPPS. | Helped By: Valium, Klonopin, and very hot baths, followed by lying down still/doing relaxation. Also made almost symptom free for a few seconds following a bowel movement. | Worsened By: stress, anxiety, skipping meals, lack of sleep, extended sitting, coffee, alcohol. NO other pain or discomfort although after ejaculation symptoms will usually get worse unless I lie still for 20 minutes or so. | Other comments: Symptoms began at the moment of ejaculation, disappeared after a few months and then returned a few months later and have not gone away since.

Re: Internal Massage - How deep do you go?
This seems like an absolutely critical question. I'm surprised it hasn't generated a discussion. If it is correct that you have to go many inches past the prostate then many of us are not going to be cured using the wand from the Santa Rosa clinic.

Plenty of men have recovered without ultra-deep massage.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

I do have my worst triggerpoints about 5-6 inches up at 11 and 2 o clock and I use my Theracane to reach them. I can't treat them very often though because it feels like stabbing a knife through my pelvis,

Do you also have the Wise/Anderson wand? As I have been doing the protocol for 16 months without a huge change in symptoms, my main concern is that there could be trigger points higher up that I am missing.Gettingbetter wrote:I do have my worst triggerpoints about 5-6 inches up at 11 and 2 o clock and I use my Theracane to reach them. Re: Internal Massage - How deep do you go?
Deeper massage (6"-10") is really important people. You don't have to do it all the time but you should be checking in on these muscles from time to time and releasing tightness. I've found a big connection to the tightness of these deeper internal muscle groups and the external and internal muscles around the tailbone. They work together in most functions. Releasing lower muscles helps release deeper muscles but tight deeper muscles will keep your lower pelvic muscles tight too. Both areas need to be explored and released. That said I've found scar tissue (and adhesions it causes) around my tailbone to be the biggest issue so far at keeping all muscles too tight. Try hunting down and breaking up scar tissue while releasing deeper as well as lower pelvic muscles. ;)
