Hey guys,
This is the first time that I have written in and it is mainly because I received relief for the first time since my initial flare. I will have to say that as a 28 year old having these symptoms are terrible. In an age of many STD's,unexplained burning of the penis is horrifying. I read for hours (until I couldnt sit anymore) looking for a list of clear description of symptoms. I know that eveyone is different, but I think a good list will allow people to understand more clearly and relate.
Here are my symptoms; If anyone has the same, please let me know so guys can get a sence of frquency of symptoms:
1) Burning during and after urination. At times it felt like my penis was full of something(urine) or discharge, but nothing was coming out. The burning was also only on one side, and in a patch. On some occasions there was some what appeared to be pre-semen discharge.
2) redness at the tip and around the rim of the head with very sensitive areas there as well. Not able to tolerate loose underwear, the rubbing on it was a killer.
3) testicular painand numbness after sitting
4) frequent urination at night
5) flare of symptoms for days after ejaculation
6) back pain
7) stabbing pain in rectum/testicle
What I have tried:
1)STD testing (-)
2) levaquin daily for weeks (tried to stop with flare of SX after long road trip)
3) zyrtec/singulair
4) Bextra/ Celebrex
5) restarted masturbation
6) daily runs
7) neurontin
8) Pain clinic....see below
I recently was symptom free for three weeks after going to the pain clinic for an injection of dexamethasone and lidocaine into the inguinal ligament. The penis burning went away competely, as did the frequent urination, and pain. My pain doctor started me on neurontin, the injection (once) and bextra. I stopped it on vacation, but after the road trip, I am in pain.
I am a doctor (gynecologist) and there is no way to reduce the stress and these symptoms make the stress worse.
Would everyone comment on these symptoms: Good luck to any new reader in finding your treatment. Urologist was only helpful because of the good refererral to the pain MD/

Common symptom.ALEXR wrote:1) Burning during and after urination.
Again, abnormalities of the glans are commonly seen - rashes, red marks, slightly protuberant, reddish urethra, etcredness at the tip and around the rim of the head with very sensitive areas there as well. Not able to tolerate loose underwear, the rubbing on it was a killer.
The intolerance of underwear points to neuropathy.
Points to neuropathy.testicular pain and numbness after sitting
Common during flares.frequent urination at night
The most classic symptom of all.flare of symptoms for days after ejaculation
Extremely common ...back pain
Been there, done thatstabbing pain in rectum/testicle
Useless, but a good start. What I have tried:
1)STD testing (-)
Placebo.levaquin daily for weeks
Not bad.zyrtec/singulair
Good for some.Bextra/ Celebrex
Relax during orgasm.restarted masturbation
Hurts me, but some say it helps. I walk daily.daily runs
Many say it helpsneurontin
Good stop-gap measure.Pain clinic....
Welcome. You have a lot to learn ..

Yes on the burning.
yes on the redness.
yes very sensitive to tight anything . Although I started wearing a jock strap for jogging and that helped reduce the testicle pain . I also do skilled relaxation after jogging instead of the usual sit uos . much better.
yes to the numbness after sitting which turns into aching after.
yes to the flares after ejsculation but not all the time .
yes to the backpain .
and like webslave said , welcom to the forum .

ALEXR,
Welcome to the Forum! I hope you find information and support here. As a Gynecologist, your knowledge of the pelvic floor is invaluable. There is an excellent book, "A Headache in the Pelvis," by Wise and Anderson, that (IMHO) contains the latest approach to chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome treatment with an emphasis on stress <--> CPPS. There are also a lot of journal aritcles and abstracts mention on this forum that may be of interest to you. Do a 'search' for ABSTRACT. There are also a lot of topics posted about stress.
Some current PDF articles can be found at the UCPPS Data Archive's website (see topic).

Could this suggest a neurological involvment? e.g. Pudendal?...testicular painand numbness after sitting

Re: My story: explaining the symptoms
Welcome to the group, ALEXR. If you haven't already, read Mark's website at https://ucpps.men , which is jam-packed with interesting and important information on CPPS/IC/PM.ALEXR wrote:This is the first time that I have written in
These are all very common symptoms. Know that you are not alone. Here are my symptoms
If you keep reading this forum, you'll see that many treatments for your condition are discussed here. Hopefully, one of these will put you into a long-term remission.I recently was symptom free for three weeks after going to the pain clinic for an injection of dexamethasone and lidocaine into the inguinal ligament. The penis burning went away competely, as did the frequent urination, and pain. My pain doctor started me on neurontin, the injection (once) and bextra. There are several MDs who are sufferers that post here occasionally. I doubt the stress associated with the career you've chosen is helping you get control over this disease.I am a doctor (gynecologist) and there is no way to reduce the stress and these symptoms make the stress worse.
This is not medical advice. Please consult your physician.

Thanks for all the great replies. I have read almost every post on here and other websites. I have researched this as well as the entire differential diagnosis. One of the more bothersome symptoms with this and the previous flare is that the end of my penis feels like it sticks to my underwear, like it dries to it, and then when I re-adjust it pulls off and hurts a bit. Is this familiar to anyone?
As for the left sided problem, I should have mentioned that I had a varicocele repair and still have a varicocele on that side, so my injection was for possible nerve entrapment, however, it was the steroid not the lidocaine that made all the difference. Keep writing and thanks.

Yes, I've had that. Two possibilities: an inflamed GU tract can make the urethral meatus more apparent (slightly protuberant etc) and this can lead to contact between the normally internal urethral epithelium and clothing, with consequent adhesion. But if your meatus looks totally normal (like a closed slit), then you may have leakage of prostatic secretions after ejaculation (common in this disorder). The secretions then dry to a sticky consistency, adhering to clothing.ALEXR wrote:One of the more bothersome symptoms with this and the previous flare is that the end of my penis feels like it sticks to my underwear, like it dries to it, and then when I re-adjust it pulls off and hurts a bit. I won't say much since most of your questions have already been answered. But one thing you said did peak my interest. The point you made about wearing loose underwear like boxers irritates you. Since the initial flare up for myself I have moved to more fitted boxer briefs. I find that loose fitting boxers are way too sensitive on my penis and cause great discomfort.
This is the first time anyone else has made note of that.

I have had all of your symptoms at one time or another. I especially would note the underwear issue. I was always a "boxers" guy, but since this condition started, I've moved solely to briefs for the reason you stated.
Keep the faith. I've not had any symptoms in about a year (except those generated by medication).
