Had the condition for two months

Post by kemarm1 »

Hey Guys,

I'm new at this too and been dealing with this for about 2 months now. In that time I have had a cystoscopy, MRI, and pelvic CT- all were negative. With what I know now I wish it would have been a stricture. My urologist (on the 2nd one now) said it's mostly likely prostatitis and he wants me to take more antibiotics- after the 20 total days I was on Cipro and doxycycline with no resolution as well as not having any bacteria show up in my urine I think I'll pass. I've been on Alfuzosin for a week now and it has helped bring my urgency down from a 10 to a 5- which is still pretty annoying. When I pee it's a weak stream and usually only amounts to 200ml. If I can last up to 3 hrs between trips to urinate that is a really good day- most days it's every 1-2 hrs. I sit on a bright red circular do-nut that my wife and I affectionately call "Ronald" which actually helps a lot. I try not to sit for long periods of time and that helps too. After spending hours on this site (which has truly been a blessing knowing that I'm not alone) I have order the Wise book and look forward to trying his method- I actually contacted him about attending his course in June/July as well if I can get the money together ($4,000). I really do believe this is a muscular thing. The last two nights I have used our electronic vibrating back massager on my butt, perineum, and rectal sphincter with a lot of success- this was all externally of course but it helped to get rid of the "sitting on a golf ball" feeling.

Now if I could just get rid of the urgency piece that would be great! I too am following the diet- no alcohol, diet drinks, coffee, carbonated stuff, spicy food. I'm definitely over the flare that all this began with (which literally made me want to off myself) but I'm just really having a hard time accepting that this could be my new normal. Prior to this I was a long distance runner, weight lifter, and nursing student (I graduate in 2 wks). Now I have had to give up running, going to the gym and am worried that my years in school were for nothing because I can't imagine working like this and explaining why I have to run to the potty every few minutes. I am certainly in a dark place and I know that the stress and destructive thinking isn't helping my condition but it is so hard not to focus on this- as I cancel trips, social events, and see my wife worry and search for answers/ cures.

Can those of you guys out there who have had the urgency issue tell me what you tried or what worked? Does it ever go away? Is it unrealistic for me to hope that I will be able to piss at 100% again and not every 1-2 hrs?

200ml every 3 hrs is within normal limits.

From the 2004 study Voiding frequency in a sample of asymptomatic American men :
  • Men voided a median of 7 times in one day (95% of subjects voided fewer than 12 times) although it varied widely (range 2 to 21 times a day).
  • Subjects voided a median of 1.65 liter in 24 hours (range 0.29 to 6.840). They intook a median of 2.747 liter per day (284 subjects).
Avoid caffeine too.

You will get back to normal, but it won't be like getting better from a cold. This takes time.

Do not neglect the very important mental aspects, which often underlie this condition. Treating the mind is even more important than treating the body.

Yes, there are many cases of men returning to normal urinary frequency.

Webslave you never cease to amaze with the facts and details you have at your fingertips!

Wow that is an eye opening survey. I realize now that I am probably totally within normal voiding limits now! It just goes to show how much one's own perception can be skewed from reality. I thought for sure the average voiding frequency for men my age would be 3-4 times a day. 7 is the median? And 95% voided 12 times or less a day? And a quarter reported voiding one time a night? Hell! That means I'm normal! LOL!

Damn I'm closer to being healed than I thought! LOL! ......

....not sure what I'm supposed to feel right now.
Age: 35 Onset Age: 31
Symptoms: An almost constant feeling of the need to urinate all the time. Pain in the penis, at the tip, and "behind" the penis inside the pelvis. Also urethral pain after ejaculation. No rectal pain or symptoms at all.
Helped By: Hot baths, Dr. Wise's relaxation tapes. Internal trigger point work every two days with the Wise-Anderson Protocol wand.
Worsened By: Ejaculation (changes the pain to a burning sensation most times) Alcohol increases urinary frequency greatly. Falling "off the wagon" and not following the Wise-Anderson Protocol protocol.

I am a runner like you. Remember this. The endorphins generated by your active lifestyle are hugely important. When you stop these activities you can sink into a dark dark place. Your stress outlet is gone, and on top of it you feel like you have to pee all the time and you have pain in the most embarrassing part of the body and you can't speak with anyone about it.

I would suggest low dose Elavil and hydroxyzine and some benzo to get you mellowed out. The biggest thing to remember.. You do not necessarily need to stop doing anything. Running, weight lifting. Maybe just do a little modification for awhile. It will be way better for your head to keep active. Just don't stress about it. I started walking. Huge embarrassment for a runner. But I learned that it is really a great thing, especially if you can do it in nature.

You need to explore your levator ani. Get some gloves, gel lubricant and the headache in the pelvis. Go internal and notice what you notice. Your symptoms are tied to the insertions around the prostate. Things get tight. You're gonna need to stretch them out.

You'll also need to do a realistic self evaluation and determine what kind of anxiety you live under. If you are like most of us on the board, you came here thinking you were the most relaxed dude in the world, only to find out how much stress had crept into your world without you being aware of it. Just be honest with yourself and work to change your behaviors. CBT can be very helpful. A meditation practice is a must for many of us.

I didn't have the golf ball feeling, but that's just tight muscles. Just going in with a gloved finger, hooking a finger into your rectum and pulling outward, and holding, should begin to reduce this feeling.

Quit the antibiotics. Those things almost killed me. And doctors love to keep giving them to you. Ridiculous.

I'm not a doctor, but I look like one in the right light. But these things certainly worked for me.

Good luck sir.

Very true about the importance of exercise. I had a daily routine going and overall was feeling relatively good and hopeful. Hurt my back and haven't been exercising for two weeks. The discomfort in my penis is 10 times worse. I feel completely depressed. I'm continuing the Wise/Anderson protocol, but suddenly I am second guessing even that (because if it is helping why can I feel so bad after 8 months of daily practice) I have started taking uroxatral. Side effects are stuffy nose and headache so far. Need to get back to the gym and back to the energetic and positive feeling that I had a few weeks back. A bit disturbing that that feeling of well being can evaporate so quickly.
Age: 39 | Onset Age: 17 | Symptoms: Constant feeling of needing to urinate felt in the tip of penis. Frequency. Urgency. None of the typical pain associated with CPPS. | Helped By: Valium, Klonopin, and very hot baths, followed by lying down still/doing relaxation. Also made almost symptom free for a few seconds following a bowel movement. | Worsened By: stress, anxiety, skipping meals, lack of sleep, extended sitting, coffee, alcohol. NO other pain or discomfort although after ejaculation symptoms will usually get worse unless I lie still for 20 minutes or so. | Other comments: Symptoms began at the moment of ejaculation, disappeared after a few months and then returned a few months later and have not gone away since.
